Limited flexibility and subpar UI
Avantages
Ease of install I suppose; that and its ease of uploading reports into our EHR.
Inconvénients
Flexibility is limited. Other report designers will offer time saving features that are missing here. Having to manually create queries instead of having a UI do it for you ( a la Crystal Reports) is a huge time sink. Using the Report Designer locks you into appearance constraints and removing them is a pain.

Nice tool for reporting
Avantages
We use Pentaho to do SLA reporting to our customers. Reports can be customised in various ways which is a great thing.
Inconvénients
Because there are so many things Pentaho can be used, the user interface could be more intuitive to use.

PDI Community Edition is amazing.....the rest is mud
Avantages
- Free PDI tool....its free so no discussions with finance
- PDI is actually very effective ETL application with a easy to understand flow
- Community is actually helpful
Inconvénients
- Free BI tool is just slightly easier than building a website from scratch but a lot harder than using any other BI tool.
- You need to know how to hack java to use.
- The paid version does not have competitive pricing for the incremental value.

Pentaho is a user-friendly open source ETL tool
Avantages
I like its ease of use; it is very easy to build an ETL pipeline after the initial learning curve. I also like the variety of modules. There are a lot of powerful modules, and you will mostly find the module you want. User-defined code is very flexible; it's possible and very easy to plug in user-defined Java code. When there is no module implemented for desired function, this feature comes handy. Multithreading is also easy. The transformation can be set to run multiple copies in parallel.
Inconvénients
Occasionally, Pentaho Spoon (GUI) crashes, and a restart is required.

cool tool for your web app
I was impressed with the ability to integrate this into an existing web app. It allowed our users to start looking at operational data and learning from it.

An easy BI tool with a POWERFULL ETL inside
Avantages
Pentaho BI Solution is nomilly a BI Open Source solution that can compete with the most important players of this area.
Pentaho is easy to manage and has a powerfull ETL inside that can be managed itself as a product.
Inconvénients
The "Open Source Philosophy" is not away true.... I mean that if you want a full support from Pentaho it will be not-so-cheap

A great data analysis tool
personally I think it is a very powerful tool, powerful, very robust and also free

A very well designed platform, of great cost benefit, as well as the integration and reports, even better than when we analyze the costs,
Pentaho is a free tool, incredibly, because when you work on it, you realize the robustness by handling a lot of information in just seconds
Inconvénients
In addition to its great design, the learning curve is quite high, and its platform is not very intuitive

Pentaho features pixel-perfect reporting, subreports, parameterized reports, and OLAP. The OLAP tools let you perform ad-hoc views, reports, and views through MDX queries. Pentaho puts more effort into data integration, ETL, and workflow automation.

Requires training before actual use
Avantages
Pentaho Data Integration has lot of functions to fulfill the requirements. Functions dealing with running shell script to creating and reading from Excel spreadsheets were quite useful for creating an ETL flow.
Inconvénients
Requires the training to actually understand the product. It is hard to figure out several aspects like declaring variables (global) within the product.

Very intuitive
Avantages
It is intuitive for beginners, what makes it easy and quick to learn. Also, it's a free platform, and it has one large community.
Inconvénients
The bugs are usually not so easy to solve, and the errors shown sometimes don't give you a clue of what is wrong.

Its a great Experience.
Avantages
This product has good features including data mining, integration. This product also has features for data reporting. Learning curve for the product is less.
Inconvénients
Not Really. I don't think there is anything I dislike. This product has all good features.

Easy reporting and data mining tool
Best to consider for data mining.
Avantages
we can create reports very easily and its very easy to manage. we can provide information in more informational way to our customers.
Inconvénients
This is easy to use but hard to integrate ,use is limited in many cases and not for every application.
