Avantages

Revit is exactly that, a tool. It's there when you need it as long as you know how to use it. It's been an important part of our business in landscape construction & development. The greatest part of Revit is that its integrated with the rest of the Autodesk products. I can swap back and fourth from AutoCad, to Revit, and render it in a different program with Photoshop. It can be used as a standalone tool but it's best integrated with the whole suite.

Inconvénients

Revit is very intuitive to use but at times it's easy to get stuck when you're new and they don't have as much built in training as some of the other programs.

Avantages

What I like about the software is that it is very user-friendly and very straightforward to use. I have been an Autodesk Revit user for more than 7 years now and I have also used and explored other 3D authoring software, attended training and product presentations and I find the Autodesk Revit software easier to learn for beginners and the user interface is simple and complicated. The processes and workflow for other 3D authoring software are mostly long and complicated which can be confusing to new users and beginners which is I think is the key reason most companies in our industry prefer to use the Autodesk Revit software.

Inconvénients

What I like the least about this software is that it is not backward compatible which is sometimes troublesome during the start of the project because Revit files that are saved by the latest version of Revit cannot be opened by the older versions which sometimes creates problems when the parties involved are using different versions.

Avantages

The term "One source of truth" describes Revit well. You can produce hundreds of drawings from one 3D model. Change any drawing or the model and every drawing reflects that change. In AutoCAD, you would have to open up several drawings to make those changes. Revit, you change something in one place and you're done. Likewise we love the database Revit is. You can include any amount of information in your model that you want and present that information in schedules.

Inconvénients

Moving from AutoCAD to Revit can be difficult and frustrating for many people. Revit is a very complex software and takes a while to learn but it is well worth the pain. Some of the best benefits like changing something in one spot can also be a curse because it may have unintended consequences in other views, but that's just something you get used to and learn to resolve.

Es compatible con la metodología BIM, el cual en la actualidad es indispensable para ingenieros y arquitectos.Ayuda a ver errores de una manera mas fácil para evitarlos en futuros proyectos de ingeniería

Inconvénients

Lo principal, que el software no permite abrir archivos de otras versiones ni guardar en versiones anteriores del mismo.Creo que debería existir comandos fijos para el fácil dibujo como en Autocad, CivilCAD entre otros, y no tanto de poder configurarlos a manera propia puesto que esto retrasa un poco a la hora de usar dicho software

With tools to draw in 2D and easily model it into 3D, Revit is the solution architectures and civil engineers have been looking for. And especially with modeling and presentation tools Revit is the whole package. This package can be effectively used for architectural, structural, HVAC, and MEP modeling. And with enhanced support from other Autodesk applications, Revit seems like the industry-standard design software.

Inconvénients

The main disadvantage is the higher price value for Revit. So middle and startup companies have to think twice before purchasing Revit. Also somewhat harder to create complex models. And for a beginner, this would be harder to learn and use.

Avantages

It is very easy for beginning users to become quickly proficient by following tutorials. The software is also very robust. Students can design, furnish and create renderings/walkthroughs all within the same program. They can also import any components not included in the software from a number of support pages as well as some vendors who have created .rvt files of their products that allow it to be put into the space digitally with all correct measurements.

Inconvénients

Very robust, but takes up so much disk space it sometimes freezes computer before even opening. A LT version may be beneficial, but an entirely online version, even if it's a "light" version, would be preferred. Students aren't using all available features so it would be nice if the education version took less space, so students could have access on computers other than the one lab with enough computing power to run the software.

Because it is the best in class software, it comes with a hefty price tag. Some operations can be finicky and difficult to learn, but it is so widely used and frequently updated, that it's easy to find learn how to do anything you may need to do for a typical architectural project.

Avantages

The ability to link models through bim360 and work on a central model with a team, is revolutionary for our industry. Of course, being able to draw and model at the same time is also so important in delivering a project on time and being able to document changes after construction is also a must. I am always surprised when I meet people who are still working with cad but I suppose on a small project revit may not make sense.

Inconvénients

The ability to design curves and angles, and model other complicated features, really needs to be vastly improved. Revit is cutting edge in so many ways but doesn’t lend itself to designing cutting edge designs. Things like a skylight or a monumental stair and railing should not be so difficult to model and draw when they are so easy to do so in a dozen other programs.

Es una plataforma muy buena para la ejecución de proyectos de BIM y dimensionamiento de estructura civiles para la construcción, permite una visión estándar, global y arquitectónico que los modelos diseñados. Es excelente para mostrar aristas y capas por perfil de corte para creación de planos.

Inconvénients

Es un programa muy amplio en el desarrollo y herramientas de diseño estructural y este a su vez es un problema ya que, bajo mi percepción son muy mezcladas las herramientas y no estas correctamente agrupadas.

It may not do what you need out of the box but with a bit of preparation will do everything you need.

Inconvénients

because of its flexibility its sometimes difficult to set up a standard. Learning curve is steep.

Revit is very efficient in how it optimizes use. One such feature is how component structures or sections do not have to be replicated in other view representations. The software does all that for you. So yes, the section tool is one of my favorite features in Revit.

The user community for Revit isn't as great as those of competing products. This limits direct collaboration opportunities. And the cost is a little high.

Is too restrictive for design, the software is cumbersome, for an architect is too complicaded to generate soft forms and the resulting 2D plans are horrible, you need to fix/correct almost all the drawings in AutoCAD so the graphics are somewhat presentable, the error messages are way to criptic, expensive and Autodesk forces you to upgrade every year.

Autodesk makes the transition between all their apps familiar and not overwhelmingly difficult to navigate through their ribbon tool bars and navigation tools. Revit is no different. When I first began my journey in to the fast paced world of MEP coordination making the jump from AutoCad to Revit wasn't as terrifying as it could have been.

Inconvénients

Minimum system requirements aren't enough to keep up with a coordination model that has many other trade models linked in. 3D CAD models do not display properly.

How it can be connected with other electrical/mechanical plans directly.. the capability of having 3D architectural models and using sections easilyy.

This software is somehow complicated to start with, especially due to the extra features it contains, so to start with it you should watch alot of tutorials or study it with an expert.. however, once u know how to use it you'll not switch to another software!

Revit is excellent in looking at a 3D model and completing building services designs particularly the abilty to coordinate with other services.

There is alot to learn so initially it can be daunting getting into. This software requires training but once trained (much like any other major software), its straight forward enough to use.

When it comes to 3D modelling, Revit stands out to be the best in my opinion. I like the fact that it has structural, mechanical and architectural interfaces with the three segments containing various design components under families. Revit makes 3D modelling very easy and fast because changes on one segment are communicated automatically to other segments . As we all know time is money and therefore this saves a lot of the time and money.

Inconvénients

As good as Revit is, it has the disadvantage of lacking popularity due to its relative newness in the market. This is challenge because a new software has few tutors and expert and thus it takes enormous time and effort to learn and master it. Revit is also restricted to buildings and cannot do designs for roads and cars for example.

This is a critical tool in collaborative building design! Coordination between models from other trades is a much easier task with this product.

Inconvénients

There are so many features and it’s really easy to make a mess of things if you’re not careful. It takes some serious training to be competent with this software.

Autodesk is great about continually improving their software. their 2020 release of allowing snapping to PDFs has been extremely helpful.

The customer service they provide is not the best. and over the years has decreased. however there are other avenues to recieve support with this software.

There is an endless amount of functionality within the software. Worksharing makes it good for multiple disciplines to work together in one file.

The user interface does not make it simple for a structural engineer to design in. Drafting in AutoCAD vs Revit is infinitely easier.

What I like Revit the most is the preliminary checking of clashes. This allows me see the results of modelling instantly without exporting them in nwc or ifc format.

There may be a few bugs for new features. And we can only try to find a workaround before the development team find the solution or solve the bugs.

The software options designed specifically for architectural and structural modelling is the best part especially when this is compatible Autodesk's Autocad software for building plans.

The options could be a little overwhelming. If you are familiar with other modelling software like Solidworks, the standard tools are similar and easy to interpret while complex/advanced tools need bit more expertise to get used to.

Avantages

Since most people in the construction industry use Autocad it is easy to also start using Revit. Being able to convert your building plans into a 3D view does wonders for your ability to notice problems which may not have been caught before construction. This is especially crucial for spotting issues with piping and electrical wiring.

Inconvénients

When I try to open Revit files on another computer with an older version of the software it does not work. This can be problematic when trying to collaborate with coworkers in different offices which might be using an older version of Revit.
