With Heroku I really like how easy it easy to deploy your server and also the very rich add-ons ecosystem that it has.

Inconvénients

I really loved the hobby plan that Heroku had but it seems that now it's not available.

Avantages

The ease of use :

You simply have your app running locally, Now you don’t want to reinstall everything on a server you manage.

You simply use git push and the code is deployed

Inconvénients

The cost is a bit high compared to bare vms. With a simple website with a database and some redis, you’ll probably pay 80€/month

I like that it lets you host various languages. I mostly use it to host node based application and it does the job really well. I also really like that it integrates with github quite well.

Inconvénients

I didn't like that they removed the free trial. Also, it can get expensive for larger applications.

When I need to get a product out there in an MVP-like case I go for Heroku, a few clicks and you are ready to go. Heroku UI is beautifully crafted and they support many languages through their buildpacks, making almost any app compatible.

Their CLI and integration with Github makes deployment a breeze, I love to deploy by simply doing a git push. Their CLI is easy to use and the documentation is clear enough for most cases. Thanks to Heroku I was able to deploy a few web apps easily, their pipelines and integration make them ideal for small-scale projects and prototypes removing a great deal of low-level and hosting issues. Most of the heavy lifting is done for you.

Is amazing that the downtime is non-existent, the old dyno keeps serving until the new one is ready, then they're switched and the user doesn't experience downtime.

For small-scale apps and prototypes, Heroku is super affordable, even I hosted many of my apps in free plans.

Inconvénients

I found it difficult to deploy apps client-based, for instance, I made an Angular app but since there's no buildpack for a fully static app I had to wrap on the app on PHP in order to be deployed.

Prices can go up quickly if your app starts using more resources, in many cases, it would be wiser to migrate to a different platform once the things start to escalate.

As Heroku does it really easy to set up the application for you it's often hard to tweak or change advanced features, you don't really have full server control. Also, I would like to see more integrations with other .git providers like Bitbucket and Gitlab.

Heroku allows us to deploy simple full stack applications to the cloud, without us having to go through the complex AWS/GCP/Azure configurations. For pet projects and/or minor applications, it provides a great uptime, fast deployment, CI/CD, database deployment plugins, and good logging mechanisms, so that we developers can focus on the business logic without worrying about configuring our environment

Inconvénients

I faced several issues while setting up simple applications, and the answers to fix them were more like hacks. Its CLI, while useful is prone to bugs and lacks documentation. It provides limited functionality compared to IaaS platforms like AWS.

Heroku is really very easy to use and can deploy the application very quick.

Avantages

It is the easiest option for deployment I have ever seen. And the option for addon is plenty. The option for dyno scaling is easy. Also Review app feature from Heroku is one of the most underrated features for them. We user review the app feature for all pull requests and all QA reviews.

Inconvénients

It is a bit expensive for a starter and low traffic web application. Most of the time debugging is pretty easy with Rollbar and Papertrail logs but those only works when the app already started. If the app cannot start after deployment it gives H10 error which is very generic and does not tell anything about the error.

I love it's simplicity, and it was very cheap for small projects, and easy to integrate a lot of different 3rd party services.

Inconvénients

Heroku was my go to place if I wanted to host a prototype or hobby project. Right now, everything is getting very expensive, and the service is basically the same as 4 years ago. There are basically no new features for individual developers. There are a lot of new features like teams and pipelines for larger projects for companies. It's more revenue driven now but I don't blame them, it makes sense.
One thing I think it would be nice to have is, there can be cheaper servers (maybe a separate dyno hours) for front end only apps (just like S3 hosting for static sites).

Avantages

Heroku's platform is very intuitive and easy to learn as a developer. The APIs available make it possible to automate lots of the CI/CD pipeline which cuts back on tedious tasks and lets developers have more time for developing. It's also possible to integrate with Terraform for easy and consistent setup between various applications.

Inconvénients

The removal of the free tier is my least favorite aspect. Free tiers are great for proof of concepts and low mileage/hobby applications. It's a great way to get toes in the door, which leads to whole accounts being set up.

Avantages

Easily and dynamically add or remove resources ("server" processing, workers, etc). Add-ons provide an incredibly easy way to integrate dozens of tools and services into your app with almost no configuration at all.

Inconvénients

Pricing is a bit higher than using a VPS, specially if you need things like static IPs. This is even more pronounced for fast-scaling apps as costs can add-up quickly.

It is very fast in deployment. It is cheap for small project. It has lot of great of feature like pipeline, auto deployment and lot of addons and lot more. You can integrate it with git and can have auto deployment as and when you push some code change to your deployment branch.

It is very expensive for large scale apps. Other than this, it is excellent.

I love the integrations with GitHub enabling continuous deployment with your GitHub repositories. You can try it out right now for free and expand to a paid plan if you like it.

Compared to other cloud services Heroku is not cheap, specially when comparing with EC2 instances. However, it is much easier to use and provides CD pipelines out of the box.

This host is most likely for small businesses and for startups, Its very easy to configure and deploy any project, I've use with Ruby and with Node.js and it works very smoothly. You can add any configuration or dynos by one click and connect everything to each other.It has all monitoring services you want as you product is small or mid size as growing.

As I mentioned above this is for small products, one of cons I faced in these years that you cant do a lot of advanced configuration of your dns or ssl settings, you should either use their paid addons or you should move to AWS or somewhere else. And if you use heroku stack you should update it frequently cos it will stop supporting one day.

I'm blown away by how simple Heroku makes it to deploy and manage apps. There are plugins for almost anything you can think of, including databases, caching, monitoring, and auto-scaling.

When a build fails, debugging via the UI is difficult. A software engineer is disappointed when he or she has little control over how machine code operates.

Heroku is good tool when it comes to deploy a small or medium size application and you want fast deployment. As it can be easily integrated with github, you can deploy different different branch to it, can have auto deployment on master branch and lots of other great feature.

I think it is good for small application but for large size application I cannot say for how it will perform

I have used this tool for lots of my project. There are lots of thing I like about this tool which are:

2. Auto deployment
3. simple add ons to acquire services like database

One thing that sometimes frustrated me was the inability to visualize the data that was in my tables on my server. There may be a way to do this, but I wasn't able to find that.

It's graphical resources are very intuitive with easy "step by step" procedures. Their log service helped me go through issues and solve them.

It could keep a free tier for small business like mine. I just have a POC and I have to pay to use it, as long as I know.
