I am a right-brained, creative, low-tech Luddite; I hand-make jewelry for museums. I am not high tech, and many programs confuse me. I tend to be disorganized because my brain is a busy place and that makes the financial side of my business difficult, and in the past, an ongoing struggle. Sunrise simplified my life!! At least in the area of bookkeeping and invoices. I love it's simplicity! I have been using it for a few years now and have saved hundreds in misplaced invoices!

Inconvénients

I do sometimes run into problems with the editing feature, but that is probably just me.

Avantages

It is super easy to use and all invoicing and accounting features required for small businesses are included. Great value for the price!

Inconvénients

Lack of translations available for templates. I would like to have templates available in other languages or be able to translate all text variables myself.

Avantages

Intuitive and easy. I also like the reports I can run for my invoicing and options for sorting information.

Inconvénients

I used to have Billy and had the option to do a wire transfer payment without them taking a charge. Since they take a percentage, I no longer give that option to my clients.

Avantages

I can create a quote for a client in minutes with good details and add a deadline to it if I need to. I can convert the quote to an invoice if the client approves the quote. It is easy to see what invoices are open and easy to update payments for open invoices.

Inconvénients

Changes to invoice permenant wording can be a pain because the access to this section is not obvious. Since it is something you only change once in a great while that means you have to keep great notes on how to do it or contact support every time.

I already have and will continue to recommend this service to all I know, because of the unlimited ability within this accounting software I’m only beginning to understand. Thank you Sunrise.

Avantages

It has so many financial and bookkeeping features inside that I still haven't used half of it in my two years of using them. I've been a member since the beginning when it was called Billy.

Inconvénients

Not many cons but if you're not a CPA or similar professional , you probably won't use the majority of features included in the free account.

Avantages

- Easy to create and send professional-looking invoices;
- Easy to track expenses;
- Recurring invoices save me time for those that advertise on my site and are billed monthly

- I'd love to see time-tracking feature for the clients I bill by the hour
- Sometimes I have trouble figuring out how to change a certain setting, however, by messaging customer support I always learn quickly!
- I'd love to see integrated PayPal payments so I don't have to manually mark invoices as paid

I like how easy it is to figure things out in Billy. I also like that things are customizable because I have more than one business that I send invoices for.

I don't like that it takes a few days for us to have money deposited into our account. I would like the option to use PayPal as a processor as well

Not really a lot not to like about the software somethings are repetitive but you can change it in settings.

The interface is beautiful and laid out in a minimalist fashion. The functions of accounting and bookkeeping are well laid out and easy to follow. It's built for small business and yet they chose double-entry bookkeeping system - that's definitely a plus in my mind.

Inconvénients

A deal killer for me was problem integrating with credit cards and banks to download transactions. These integrations worked for some banks, but not the others. Even though the layout is simple, some parts of it are not intuitive and the support is not always readily available.

I love how clean of design it is. After being bogged down by other programs for years, Billy does it best.

I wish that I could create a recurring expense and that there would be Zapier integration so I could link this with my proposal software.

Our team is all volunteer and we don’t have the resources for a lot of expensive software or training. Using Sunrise is pretty intuitive and you can learn the system really quick.

It would be nice to have an app. I think there use to be one that let you take photos of receipts but I haven’t been able to use it.

I like the ease and ability to keep my business finances in order. The dashboard is great along with the other features - being able to create invoices with a link for payment, profit/loss and balance sheets, and tax statements.

Ok, I got this software to help our company with our accounting. We have clients in multiple countries and with different currencies, so Billy is super easy to use and if you need the support is fast.

Billy is also a double entry software, which means its fully compliant with the rules of accountant.
I know, accounting is boring, but at least with Billy can be easy.

Inconvénients

One thing that bothers me is the lack of recurrent charges. They do have recurrent invoices capabilities, but the recurrent charges would be an awesome add-on.

They said they will add it, if they really do, the software will have ALL an entrepreneur needs to keep things by the book:)

I love that this is a double- entry accounting platform. They have the ability to capture receipts and sync to my bank which is a HUGE plus. The ability to create recurring invoices is an added bonus for me as a solopreneur. Any aspect of time savings multiplied throughout my week and month is a great bonus.

Inconvénients

The only downside for the software, for me, right now is their inability to auto=charge ACH drafts for recurring invoices. This would be a lifesaver for me for my retainer clients. Yes, they can pay via ACH, but for whatever reason none of my retainer clients have started paying that way. Any way we can make it easier for our Cilents to pay the better, and ACH would drastically reduce credit card fees.

Simple interface, exceptional customer service (considering it is free), and I can access it from any device I want.

Not much to dislike so far. It is a fairly basic program, so if we had a larger or more complicated business, I could see it maybe not being as useful.

The cheer amount of functionality is what I like most of Billy software. And even though they have been critiseded a lot, they kept going and improving the software. That must not have been easy. Yet, they persisted and kept development going.

Last September Billy mailed that they were looking for funding to the next set of major features. That I did not see coming and made me worrry. One could argue that by now Billy should make enough to selfsustain and develop furter. Mixed emotions.

This software is extremely easy to use and understand. Unlike Quickbooks online I'm able to understand the settings and what I'm doing and why. It's far easier, but best of all, not full of bugs!

The one issue I run into is the automation with my bank is not nearly as good as with Quickbooks. Quickbooks would be able to automatically track income and expenses and sort them in the right categories. I can't seem to figure this out in Billy.

The software is a smart component of my business. Yup, it's essential. Yup, it's focused to my accounting needs. Yup, it's very reasonably priced.

For me it's been cheaper and more fun than Quickbooks. I really appreciate how the Billy team is trying to provide positive reinforcement to use the product and keep on top of the details with Billy!

I may need to do annual reconciliation with Quickbooks to work with others (eg - accountant etc). So far it looks like that may run per year. Would like to see that cost come down.

This software does make business accounting simple and straightforward.
It's intuitive and allows you to not spend a bunch of time figuring out your financial software.

Coming from Quickbooks, for my needs specifically, it's missing a few things that I'm used to. Also QB does allow customization of invoices. Not a huge deal, but it's a personal thing.
I think other platforms are more robust, but that's also Billy's strength, that it's all that you need without all the bloat.

They support all major currencies, and some international banks. Have to request if your bank isn't supported.
All transaction fees are with the payment processor you use, either Paypal or Strip.

Doesn't seem Cannot change the VAT value to suit different country.
No language translations.
No paypal payments... only Stripe is available.

The software is very simple to use. If you have any questions or looking for a feature, you can easily find it with just a few clicks.

I wish it had a little bit more features. Such as the ability to budget and categorize your expenses. It giving you a warning when you are near your limit or if you have excess to ask if you'd like to relocate it to something else (like reinvesting into product).

I like being able to set up my known expenses in advance so that they are tracked and I can plan for them as well.

At first, I could not figure out how to change the settings for the expenses, but I think I got it now!

An intuitive interface which made the software very easy to use. I also liked the fact that I could email the clients right from the dashboard itself. Customer support is great too. I had two minor issues and they were resolved by the end of the business day.

Nothing I did not like. I think it's great software for a small or medium sized business like mine.
