We use it in the job and I like the way you can talk locally, sometimes we don't have internet and we can still talk through Rocket.Chat (and also upload files)

The UI is not the best but nothing to die for. Also it get constantly updates and sometimes it fails (Mac user)

Good software to used by the organisation for communicating with the employees and for team discussions.

It's version is change very quickly i.e after every week so the user is frustrating sometime to updating it everytime.

Our internal Slack instance quickly outgrew the free features & space available. With Rocket Chat, we have more space (so chats aren't reset daily) and features, as well as greater control over features. My team now uses Rocket Chat almost exclusively to communicate within our department and with other departments/teams. It's a great alternative for communicating during remote work or multitasking without disturbing co-workers.

Inconvénients

There have been some stability/compatibility issues; I often had problems loading chat in Firefox (even after clearing my cache and/or restarting my machine) but haven't had any issues after changing to using Chrome as my browser.

Rocket chat has been made in a perfect way. You have many options to work with. It is perfect for companies, but also it is perfect for personal uses.

The only thing I don't like is that they don't have good mobile app. There is a mobile app already but it doesn't work as it should.

This is a great full featured chat utility that packs a lot into the free software.
This is easy to host on your own servers with the available snap installs.
Not only offers a great chat enviroment but easily ties into your website for a live chat option.

Other chat utilities are building in threads which is a nice feature to have. Some of the self hosted setup can be challenging but not overly difficult.

I learned about this software when my previous employer asked us to transition to this software from Slack. And I liked it so much better! The user interface feels like Slack's and is intuitive as well. And best of all? All previous chat history is there for you to see...not blocked at all! It is also great for keeping your personal and business-related chats separate. No more emailing back and forth!

No other cons to mention here. If I had to pick Slack or this software, I would go with Rocket.chat.

My previous workplace used RocketChat for internal communication. It was a big upgrade from Spark, which was a very basic and out-dated instant messaging program

Now that I’ve used Slack I realize how clunky RocketChat was. There were consistent issues with connectivity, loss of message history and several of my coworkers had to uninstall and install the tool each month. Just get Slack.

RocketChat is probably one of the best alternative to slack, it offers both the long-term support of open-source and the fast adoption cycle of a commercial cloud based offer.

Per-user pricing model is still to high for a chat, and limitation of push notifications is a problem for mobile user support. Another pricing model would be appreciated.

Its a great tool we often use it in our organisation to communicate with our Colleagues about work to pass any information.Its quite secure way of communication. We can go back to the previous chats to get any past information.We can make groups and pass the same information to all the members in the group.

It's a familiar layout as it's similar to Slack. You can easily create channels and chat to team members. Uploading custom emoji is always fun, and it works well on Rocket.Chat.

Rocket.chat needs an improvement on temporary chat between 3 or more people. Every time you need to create a new room.

Polished solution that gave us a quick replacement to Slack. No more 10k message limitation pruning old useful conversation/fixes in a tech setting.

When the world seems to be using Slack and one room moves to Rocket.Chat, it just means another client/tab to have open. I can't fault them for that... just hoping the rest of the world moves over too. Ha!

First time, I heard about this software when we have to organize a virtual conference at a large scale, to connect people across world, is so easy and integration on the other hand works smoothly. Easy to control, no such ads available in between. Can create different channel and groups for specific work place.

You can easily message people in your company. I can easily search by name of who I want to talk to and send messages to them even if they are offline.

I have to have rocket chat open to get messages. If i'm out of it I don't get them. It'll send the message to my email but I don't always check that. I have not found a phone app to go with it so I can respond immediately.

Low cost, option to self-host, open-source, active development, generally fast. Cloud option was an easy setup. Overall, it works.

It needs polish. There are lots of little things that cause friction: they're annoying or confusing. For instance, aliases are case-sensitive (gets my team constantly). Alias completion has a very slight delay which makes it hard to use. I can't set the order of my groups and direct messages on the left pane. The notification options are confusing and difficult to use.

We really like the easiness of the product, it allows almost any type of modern communication like #slack can do in the cloud, Rocket.Chat is located on your servers inside your company. For no-cloud enterprise, this is the perfect fit !

The great thing about this product vs it's competitors such as SLACK is that it is far cheaper, with close to the same functionality as you would expect with the other guys. You can either communicate with people in groups, or in a private channel

the best part is that since the product is open source it is highly customizable. Mostly aligns with what slack can do for you, some new features are needed to make it happen. Also nearly free if you can use it right. Would recommend for startups and other tech teams which are less than 10-15 members

More integrations are required to make this completely usable. Also with hangouts chat now available the product needs better differentiation in terms of the value proposition
