Avantages

I like PostgreSQL for different reasons:
- It has flexible implementation options.
- Large volume databases can be stored.
- It is possible to have multiple databases on a single server and have different configurations for them.
- PostgreSQL is completely free.
- Its base language is SQL, making it very easy to manipulate.
- It has excellent administration toolkits.

Inconvénients

I dislike PostgreSQL for different reasons:
- I don't like that the more detailed documentation is only available in English.
- It has a high CPU consumption.

Avantages

PostgreSQL is one of the most feature-rich, powerful and advanced open-source database management systems. Though this power comes at a cost. Using PostgreSQL in the best possible way takes some time. PostgreSQL is a real beast and it takes time before one becomes fully familiar with it.

Inconvénients

Even with all the power that PostgreSQL gives, there are certain things that are missing. For example, until the latest versions there was no support for partitioning. Lack of a great graphic admin tool is a con in my opinion. Yes, it's possible to use (and we do) third party tools like DBeaver but a great database system must simply have its own admin GUI.

Avantages

PostgreSQL has a wide support of server operating system e.g. windows, UNIX, Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD, Open BSD and OS X. Large support of APIs like ADO.NET, JDBC, ODBC and native C library which makes it easy to connect with any module. Good support of programming languages as well i.e. C, C++, JAVA, .NET, PHP and Python.

Inconvénients

Wide support from community but some times its difficult to track any issue and get support. Reading speed is bit low as compared to other DBMS. Documentation is only available in English.

Avantages

PostgreSQL is a full featured SQL server solution. it is free and open-source, PostgreSQL can be installed on many different platform like Linux, Windows, macOS and other. being open-source if has lots of contribute tools from the open-source community providing wide range solutions, PostgreSQL is also available in the cloud from all the major providers.

Inconvénients

Management is less comfortable and some settings needs to be done in PostgreSQL configuration files, also database schema management tool is not so comfortable, but you can use 3rd party tools for that also

Avantages

It's one of the best RDBMS, and it's completely free. Also there's a lot of learning resources online and a large community eager to help.

Inconvénients

Since it's a free RDBMS, there is no formal support.

Avantages

Security is very important in IoT. PostgreSQL offers robust security features such as SSL encryption and row-level access controls, ensuring that data is kept safe and secure. PostgreSQL is highly scalable and can handle large volumes of data, making it ideal for IoT applications that generate huge amounts of data.

Inconvénients

PostgreSQL has a steep learning curve compared to other databases. Its advanced features and complex commands can be overwhelming for new users. While there is a large community of PostgreSQL users, finding professional support can be challenging, especially for companies with specific needs.

Avantages

PostgreSQL is the best I can say. Its performance is very fast in terms of getting data and inserting data. Means if we are inserting entries in bulk then it would do it in a good speed as compared to other databases. It is very good for Analytics and it has good tooling than other databases. It supported many other features like using of arrays which is not in MySql so I would say it is good database to use to make applications.

Inconvénients

The big disadvantage is it takes more memory than other databases if you have many connections and replication is bit difficult in PostgreSQL which might get easy in future updates else it is a good software.

Very developer friendly
Very extensible

Inconvénients

There are lots and lots of configuration options and the defaults aren't right for modern hardware

Avantages

It is fast and reliable, manages inserts and updates of tens of thousands of lines impeccably. PostgreSQL implements SQL standards very well and supports advanced SQL stuff, the PostSQL database works very well with hibernation HPA and we have been using it extensively together with the Spring framework, the consistency is also very good, you will never lose data or lose data. JSON support in the latest version has made things easier for us now, since we do not need to migrate the schema as always before.  Finally, the backup methods through pg_dump are easy to use and ensure that you can always back up before any major changes.

Inconvénients

It is not very intuitive, in my opinion, and I think those problems must be solved before I can get the kind of traction that MySQL has, also more open sources admit mysql but not postgres. These are some of the problems with postgres.

Avantages

High availability through streaming replication;
High levels of parallel query execution introduced in latest release (v11);
Lots of data types supported, including JSON;
Transactions support in Stored Procedures;
Very stable and reliable;
Great community plugins available (like Timescale for TSDB and GIS for geo data)

- Open-source, so you can look at the code
- Every feature you might want in a database is there
- Convenient PostgreSQL admin for the management of DB servers

Inconvénients

- Making replication across several distributed regions can be quite challenging if you haven't done it before.

Avantages

- Scalability is a key factor in a database and PosgreSQL handle this large amounts of data without breaking a sweat.
- Rich text queries runs smoothly as well.
- The integration with ActiveRector is awesome!!
- I think is the most famous free database in the market right now, so that means that when an error happen you will have a good community that will have your back.

Inconvénients

- There isn't many thing to say about PosgreSQL, I will say that the most traumatic part is the installation but once you have it up and running this should be a walk in the park for a developer to use.

Avantages

PostgreSQL provides the complex functions in its stored procedures and triggers. PostgreSQL also works well in the JSON file, it allows us to store, search and index by JSON content data. It provides privileges at the object level to User and Role to make data more secure. It has many advance SQL command like Table joins, Subquery and Views, the performance of PostgresSQL is greate when we need to execute complex SQL command

Inconvénients

It does not cache the Query execution plans so sometimes cause a delay when we need to run SQL repeatedly. Its UI tool, PgAdmin's is not good compared with other tools that lack some function of the search or Scrolling.

Avantages

PostgreSQL is an excellent choice for working with relational databases. After extensive experience with databases, I found that PostgreSQL is one of the most reliable options. It is the preeminent open source SQL system and potentially the best of all, open source or not. PostgreSQL offers both remarkable performance and dependability.

Inconvénients

The SQL syntax for Postgresql was slightly different than what I was used to.

Avantages

Supports functions where the results are suitable for use as with tables. We can define own aggregate and window functions on that.
Includes built-in support for B + tree, hash, GiST, GiN and custom index types.
Support access using a system known as Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC).
Native support for many data types including XML support for Xpath queries or UUID.
User defined objects, posibility to create new types of almost all objects in the database.

Inconvénients

Possible worse performance in read operation.

Avantages

It has a clean interface and does not tries to get an attractive UI for you. It has very less query time. It provides a good architecture for code first approach projects. We set it up on Linux and it does behaves pretty nice on it. We get to see what what we need to see while querying. It is quiet easy to edit the datatypes and design your schema. Also it provides some nice mining tools which can operate on our data. And the best thing about it is source code availability. We can do whatever we want.

Inconvénients

It is slow for small database sizes but the issue erodes with database size increase. Also it has different syntax which might look complex to some.

Avantages

Most of the likely fetcher is multi language support like Java, PHP, C++ , C , Perl, Python, etc.

Inconvénients

when we considering large DBs like data warehouse large number of data reading needed but this is having low reading speed by comparing other rdms applications

Avantages

Stable, resilient, fast. It has everything you could need from a relational database plus more. We have worked on really big databases with no issues when using postgresql.

Inconvénients

There are some differences in syntax to other SQL databases, but overall they are not hard to understand and learn.

Avantages

PostgreSQL has great support for many data types, including JSON. This makes it a very flexible RDB, because you can integrate schema-free documents in your tables, query on the and select their properties. PG 11 also brought a high performance parallel query engine, which greatly boost it's performance.

Inconvénients

Security and encryptions features have room for improvement, but you can count on some 3rd party plug-ins to fill the gap.

It's been reliable beyond all expectations. Put your data in Postgres, you know you'll find them when you need them.

VACUUMs are a big performance penalty, and the default auto-vacuum settings aren't always optimal for all use cases.

PostgreSQL has many features and functions and is comparatively much faster than MySQL. It is free but very useful and secure tool in managing big databases. It has built-in data types that makes the work of a developer much easier. It has the ability to handle complex queries and process them within seconds. The best feature that I have found is storing data as advanced data structures such as Lists and JSON. It is a bit difficult to learn.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it is very difficult to resolve errors because of the lack of documentation. Also, having aliases for nested queries is an overhead when migrating from different databases. Installation is also difficult as compared to MySQL.

I really love how easy it is to setup PostgreSQL without having a ton of knowledge about the product. Setting it up on Windows is a breeze (even easier than Microsoft SQL), and you're up and running within 10 minutes. There are also some graphical tools that you can install that allow you to easily manage your PostgreSQL instances via a GUI if you prefer that over a command line interface.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it can be tough due to version differences to get the proper ODBC connector installed on your Windows box. You end up with multiple connectors that all have slightly different versions, and your application must be sure to specify the exact correct version otherwise it could throw errors. It would be nice if the connectors just stuck with major versions that supported all of the minor releases in that branch.

PostgreSQL is open source. We use it for pretty much every site or system we build. It scales well and needs a minimum of tuning. We only fall back to MySQL when absolutely necessary.

Inconvénients

We still encounter software which can only run on MySQL, especially PHP applications. For those we'll tolerate MySQL but otherwise we would prefer PostgreSQL support.

Avantages

It supports advanced database features like partiotions, scalability, optimized concurrency management, security.
It is offered under MIT-style license.

Inconvénients

It is difficult to troubleshoot PostgreSQL.
Not as widely used as My SQL for example, not as active community

The fact that it is a code DBMS makes it very transparent and adaptable to business needs. This was a very important factor for its adoption in our projects.

Inconvénients

I feel that although it is widely used in medium to high level projects, Postgre does not have the proper documentation focus required. And that makes it somewhat discredited when planning an application.

Avantages

PostgresSQL is a pretty good product as it allows with an easy installation to access the functionalities of a powerful database manager without sacrificing disk space and ram memory. On the other hand, the fact of using standard SQL ansi provides users with a known syntax.

Inconvénients

In my personal experience postgresSQL does not work well with large volumes of data and it can be tedious to use stored procedures.

its easy use, the robustness in the implementation of the security of the database. Its great functionality, which allows safe and easy use of data.

Actually up to now I have not found features that I do not like. The only thing is that sometimes it is a little complicated to get hosting that provide the service for PostgreSQL

In General, a good performance suitable for systems with weak iron. The system as a whole works very steadily. Flexibly customizable functionality plus extensive plugin support. Large community. The presence of integration with ETL solutions pleases us. I would also like to mention the SQL editor, which implements syntax highlighting in different colors, which gives excellent readability of the code. And the most basic and the main thing is that it is a free open source database management system.

Inconvénients

Not very suitable for beginners, requires significant additional time spent on the study. It does not have high availability solutions, nor does it have clustering. Difficult to install and configure. Not very well written documentation.

PostgreSQL is a very advanced SQL Database with a lot of advanced features, and it's free which is great. It scales well and works very well for large databases.

Inconvénients

PostgreSQL doesn't have loose indexscan like other SQL options. It's not a dealbreaker, but it does require you to create a pretty complex query to be able to do a quick index skip scan (get a list of all unique values in a given index).

Avantages

PostgreSQL is the first database that I learned and I have stuck with it ever since. I have used it several times for small projects, and it my previous startup. The response time is fast, the database is efficient, and very easy integrate with any back-end framework.

I have mainly integrated PostgreSQL with Django and it works very efficiently and is extremely easy to debug.

Inconvénients

I wish there was a bit more support in the community for PostgreSQL. You have find most of your answers if you ask on public forms but I have seen progress in the community.

PostgreSQL is one of the most simple to install database systems out there. It supports all standard ansi sql types, and is stable enough to use in production without having to splash out on professional support at extensive costs. Getting support can assist in business uses though, but either way, it works well for basic SQL and data storage.

The package types for advanced management are non-standard and can be a bit of a learning curve if coming from Oracle PLSQL or Microsoft T-SQL

I love that this software is free. It has an easy to use interface, especially with the more recent updates. It is very easy to find your databases, and create new tables and fields within them.

There is a steep learning curve when it comes to SQL, but that is the same with any "programming" language. It is something that gets easier over time.

in general is a good database manager like MySQL you have many functions and one, in particular, the notifications, you can send a notify and it's like a broadcast message, useful for interaction with the backend

the way how to backup and restore is sometimes complicated, we tried to automatized and sometimes works others not, the same script! and because of that, you can have an empty DB

More powerful database engine from my point of view, it can handle large amounts of data, create many functions for processing, compatible with all programming languages, fast response, integration with other tools, enough documentation on the web.

Avantages

This is a free database with all functionalities you expect from your RDBMS. You can connect to it with pretty much anything and it works like a charm. I've been using MS SQL, Oracle and MySql as well, but with PostgreSQL I've had the best experience.

Inconvénients

I don't like the new pgAdmin IV tool for accessing DB, it is much slower than the older pgAdmin III.

It has great ORMs to work with any language. I have used it for JS and Python in the backend. It's really robust.

Database development is one of my favorite areas in Systems Engineering. But I did not get to know the best of this world until I got into PostgreSQL. In my opinion, PostgreSQL is the best open source choice for databases, and possibly the best choice of all databases engines.
It's a very solid choice regardless of OS, or programming language which you are using. The database backups are highly compressed, easy to share and import.
The PL-SQL version is one of the best, with object-oriented aspects and arrays. Functions, triggers, and views are also very robust and with high performance.

Inconvénients

The interface to PostgreSQL, namely PgAdmin, is not the greatest GUI to access and manage the databases. It has some bugs and forces you to be active or it will disconnect the session.

Avantages

The ability to handle huge datasets, ability to query through them efficiently, the ease with which one can use PostgreSQL as a backend for web-applications, all of these facilitate with it being at the top.

Inconvénients

When datasets grow to a gargantuan amount, PostgreSQL does lag in a way, and if you'd compare it to BigQuery, BigQuery is definitely the champ, but it doesn't have all of the features of PostgreSQL. PG service does need good computational resources.

I like most about Postgres is its versatility and ease of use, all in a single database engine.
It is robust, versatile, simple and there is a great documentation that can be useful in times of difficulty, in addition to that's free and can be used comfortably in production environments (where exist high demands of data) or for environments where it is not necessary to have a high performance. In my company we use Postgres for environments different (quality, production and development) with excellent result.

Inconvénients

There are really some things that I don´t like about Postgres, I could comment on is that when errors occur, I would recommend that in the different information LOGs the errors are shown by code (error code), as happens with other database engines.

PostgreSQL is one the best database systems out there. It's a complete solution including rich RBDMS and NoSQL features. PostgreSQL is highly scalable and can deal with huge amounts of write and reads.

PostgreSQL is not easy to learn and configure. It definitely requires much more effort when compared to other database management systems. PostgreSQL administration is a huge topic, and without a good configuration it's hard to obtain performance.

The new management interface pgAdmin 4 is a minor disaster. It was designed from the faulty assumption that database developers/administrators want to use a web interface. I'd like to meet these people as I don't know any of them. Fortunately, pgAdmin 3 is still functional and available. With any luck, it will continue to be so.

Avantages

Ease of use - since it uses the same principles as MySQL of tables I would highly recommend this DB.

Support and tutorials. There are plenty of resources on how to use Postgres, and hence when you happen to get stuck on any functionality there is always a resource to help you out. This is one of the reasons we use it as our production DB.

Inconvénients

Its hard to set up. One of the major issues I had was the initial setup locally, Its not as straight forward as expected for such a valuable product.

Postgres is very fast when it execute sql scripts and I like to program triggers and function on it, it's very easy to work with postgresl in software developing

It's very difficult for me when I need to restore a backup, sometime it works but sometimes it doesn't, but this is something I can resolve.

One of the positive things that this manager has is that its installation is easy and free license for different distributions and operating system, also allows you to configure according to the team, other features is that you can perform read-only queries while is in recovery mode. also has a graphical tool such as pgAdmin that allows us to easily manage our database.

Inconvénients

one of the points against is that for small systems the insertion, update and elimination queries tend to be slow compared to other managers in the market. The advanced syntax is often very difficult to apply to junior programmers.

Avantages

The best of databases available in Linux-based hosting. Very efficient, fast, relational and transactional. It has many more possibilities than MySQL, among other things, a lot of unique keys in one table, UUID as a primary key. This is my favorite database, I have been programming it for over 5 years. I recommend to all those who value order and stability.

Inconvénients

it has no weaknesses, well, maybe only those in love with their MySQL bases :)
