Its free to use open source tool. It gets the job done very well, much better to use than Oracle DB.

Inconvénients

Its administrative tools are not best out there. For example, PgAdmin4 is worse than PgAdmin3 was.

Avantages

PostgreSQL is standards compliant, performant, high-quality, easy to use, well documented, innovative and feature-complete.

Inconvénients

Replication still has a way to go compared to some competing offerings, but additional software can be used to fill in the missing features.

Avantages

This is perfect replacement for any proprietary relational data bases as it provides most of the features from traditional relational DBs. It helps us in data storage and retrieval with good level of flexibility and performance.

Inconvénients

Not much as this is used as free or opensource alternative the performance matches very closely to it's paid competitors. Adding in more GUI support tools could be helpful.

Avantages

Below are few things I liked about PostgreSQL:

Inconvénients

PostgreSQL needs some specific tools inbuilt for doing in depth performance analysis. Doing a performance test on PostgreSQL isn't really fun!

What I really liked was the way this SQL based database help leverage our Business. Integrating this with PGAdmin proves to be quite useful

PostgreSQL is one of the best open source software that i like to use, it enables me to create database schema, restore databases, and also execute SQL queries. It it very easy to set-up and start using the web based application, so internet connectivity is a must unlike other SQL software, My Company recently transitioned to use PostgreSQL as a New Hire Training so people have an exposure on how to use execute SQL and more. One of functions i like about it is that, if support advanced SQL queries such as expressions and stored procedures. It also supports advanced data types such as arrays, and user-defined data types.

Inconvénients

At the moment i do not have a negative feedback on PostgreSQL i feel like i like all the features about it.

It's flexibility and ability to handle different data types. Being able to handle JSON data in a RDBMS is powerful and priceless.

There are not a lot of admin tools (compared to commercial RDBMSs).

I think it's great that it's open source. Thus, you can benefit from many features without paying any fees. It also has a very large community network. Apart from that, you can shape your tables as you want with the jsonb data type.

Reading speed is slightly lower than similar products, especially limited to.

There is a gigantic following and community behind Postgres that makes it so that if you have a problem or usecase you're unsure about, there's a 99% chance someone out there has dealt with the same thing and can help you out with an implementation.

There is quite a bit to dive into so this is not unlike other DB systems but it does always feel better to have someone who has worked with Postgres looking over your shoulder to make sure you're not shooting yourself in the foot over things that look like small configuration tweaks. Though that's not always going to be possible so it feels restrictive to play with in a staging or pre-production environment.

PG is about as good as it gets. It's a fantastic database solution with every and any feature you could need. It's extensible and very reliable. PG is extremely fast and predictable. If you can get PG offered as a service while hosting your app in the cloud it's a no brainer.

I don't really have any complaints about PG. It can be difficult to upgrade between versions as it's quite strict with how it handles versioning and data, but this can be seen as a pro and not necessarily a con in tight infrastructure scenarios since it is so strict.

Indexes aren't as quick on json fields, but are amazing for optimising standard fields. Importing and exporting data isn't quite as easy as SQL Server.

It's relatively quick and reliable. We have used a PostgreSQL database for one of our systems for years and have never had a single problem.

Postgresql is open source and free and it gets regular updates. The software is the only database as a service which is supported by AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and Heroke - this gives you a lot of options. Super scalable and very flexible. It runs on all major platforms.

Inconvénients

It is difficult to learn and master ... but that speaks to it's power.
The tool set around it is complex - but again this is part of the package. If you want to learn postgres be prepared to work in the command line - that is part of the ecosystem. It is difficult but absolutely worth it.
