The Right Project Management Tool for Small to Medium Sized Team

It's easy to use and worth the cost.

Avantages

My team and I do really like the simplicity of the software. It helps us focus on doing the tasks rather than figuring out how to use the software correctly to assign tasks.

Inconvénients

- Unmaintained mobile apps, both iOS and Android versions.
- No function to duplicate tasks list.
- Zipping attachments from a task to be downloaded, takes forever.
- Bulk actions on tasks seem to need an improvement on UX so that it's more user friendly to use. Currently, we need to scroll up and down to choose the actions.
- On the Reports page for Tasks, every time we choose a Custom Report, the columns and "sort by" are always reset.
- As admin, I can't see the full list of other user's Activities. I can only see the last 5 or something.

I might be able to give some more feedback. Do let me know if it helps improve your product :)

Collaboration on the project and task level - ActiveCollab is the middle-of-the-road solution

Using ActiveCollab daily for over two years felt easy, but also like a chore sometimes. Doing things manually falls within one's job, and it offers good control over how things happen, but sometimes you just want to automate things exactly to your liking. The former describes using ActiveCollab better, but as mentioned, that is sometimes a good thing.

Avantages

For all intents and purposes, ActiveCollab is awesome at doing what it advertises it's doing - project and task management, with easy-to-use, uncomplicated and effective tools. And really, especially on the task level, it is great and will save you a lot of time and brain power.

Inconvénients

On the other hand, if you're the one to experiment with your software, look for ways to improve it in new and unexpected way, I hope you're not expecting a lot of success with ActiveCollab. It is a good piece of software, as long as you stay within its area of expertise. Otherwise, you're just stopped in tracks for the most of time, with little or no ways to go forward.

Very easy to use but packs a big punch

Our overall experience is absolutely positive. We get to plan out our projects, go through them daily, track everything, and at the end exactly know what to invoice the client. It really covers all the basis that we need in our process and we love it for that.

Avantages

I really appreciate the simplicity and the power behind the features it delivers. On the surface, it offers just a list of tasks me and my team manage throughout our design and development process, but under the hood it offers task dependencies, estimates, time tracking and many other cool things that make it deceptively powerful.

Inconvénients

Probably the speed of the app on some larger projects. It's lightning fast for everything small to medium, but on larger projects it can take a while to load everything.

Asana is a bit confusing to get into, and it can really get expensive really fast when you need more powerful features. Teamwork was probably our second pick, bit it can be all over the place, not as elegant as ActiveCollab. JIRA is just a beast and we don't need that much complexity (and power) for our everyday development.

Simple and extensive

It was very good to us during 6 years.

Avantages

Web used Active Collab during several years in our servers. The database structure is very simple and allow us to create dashboards with user data.

Inconvénients

Lack of features like kanban and of user interface improvements during updates

ActiveCollab is suitable for collaboration and tracking

The overall experience using ActiveCollab is smooth although there are some discomfort using the dashboard. The dashboard is something that need to improve.

Avantages

My favorite tool in ActiveCollab is the task management feature. I can easily track users and comment on their task progress. I can also estimate the duration for each task and make various planning with the project goal in mind. Furthermore, I can also add attachments like images and documents from my desktop. The invoicing feature is also something I like as creating and tracking invoice is straightforward and simple.

Inconvénients

One of the drawback of ActiveCollab is the lack of integrations with other apps. In addition, there are a learning which new users need to overcome. However, after conquering the learning curve it should easy to use. Another dislike is the dashboard which is not so user friendly.

Very good modern project management tool

I was using Active Collab to coordinate work of 25 people team across different countries. It was extremely easy to use, notify people about outstanding tasks as well as track the time they were spending on those. We also had a bug-tracking system that helped us properly manage all outstanding issues and during debugging process.

Avantages

Active Collab helps you to manage all your project very easily. Its a powerful, yet simple project management tool . It has user friendly interface which is the best part of this product.

Inconvénients

The reporting system is not that strong as compare to other tools.

Un buon compromesso

Usiamo Active Collab per gestire i task e in generale tutta la comunicazione col cliente sui progetti in sviluppo e in assistenza. Ci ha semplificato molto l'organizzazione della comunicazione eliminando gli interminabili (e incomprensibili) flame di email

Falls short

Avantages

It was clean and easy to use. Onboarding to the tool was fairly straightforward.

Inconvénients

It left a lot to be desired. We had to use 5-7 different tools to manage website projects. Active Collab just didn't provide the functionality we needed to streamline project management.

Project management software tool for your everyday business

We used this software tool on just a few of my projects, so my experience is limited. However I quite enjoyed working with it, but for the future I would probably prefer some alternatives in the universe of project management tools.

Callendar, Invoice Manegement, File storage and many great features, necessary for business usage
Good integration with other tools

Can be little bit difficult tu use for novice

Best Project and task management software for SMEs

Simple UI, even a stupid person may understand after simple guidance

Avantages

I have tried multiple task management software for our company, But anyhow I was not satisfied with other product because of no option to manage workload or time and invoice calculation or somehow workflow is difficult for non technical user to use.
Activ Collab has the most simple UI and Design. Only 1 or 2 days training will be sufficient for any users to understand it.
Workload segment is really simple and most important functionality it have.
And the support team is really great.

Most importantly - it have self hosted options which is utmost priority for us for data security and privacy and also we can reduce cost for our users.

Inconvénients

Android app needs improvement. It doesn't comes anywhere near to desktop web version.

Solid pm tool

Avantages

I like design, i think its clear and intuitive. They offer and focus on all basic stuff that you need for better project mngt.

Inconvénients

Personally I dont like that they are to not-determined, its more focus on wide range of business.

Great tool for Project Management

Great tool, one of my favourite. Very simple to use for entrepreneurs, PM, clients, developer, designer.
I reccoment to everyone who manage online clients.

Avantages

I like the UI and the simplicity of use. Overall it is a great and intuitive tool. I think that also the invoicing system is not bad but I'm not using it.

Inconvénients

I manage several companies, each company manage more than one project. Would be nice add a gerarchy for Companies > Projects > Tasks. At the moment Active collab doesn't manage this feature.

And another feature that I'd like to see that is missing, and for me would be nice, add a logo for each project card.

All great, just misses some "sprint planning mode" :)

We use activecollabe every day for project management, but now when we paln sprints and use scrum, we had to look for some other sof for planing sprints, if such feature will be available in active colab out of the box, would be just awesom! :)

Something there you can see all open tasks from all projects and you could drag them to back log of the sprint and than drag over to sprint todo or done or what ewer there can be (kind of list/kanban view) and of course setting a spring length and so on :)
This is one of the most missing features for us :(

Easy of use, all in one place, we like invoices a lot!

Inconvénients

Missing sprint planing option, a lot!! :) we now use scrumdo.com for sprintplaning :( would be coll to have such functionality inside activecollab. this will make activecollab bes projectmanagement tool out there!

ActiveCollab - Easiest for clients and tracking smaller projects

Avantages

This is a super user friendly tool that we selected based on how easy it would be for our less technical clients to use. (We didn't want a huge learning curve after switching from Basecamp).

Inconvénients

Sub-tasks can't have any details attached to them at all, and you can't close out dupes easily (you can only mark them as duplicate, and I don't see how that's helpful). If you have tasks that are dependent or related, you can't batch them up.

Easy to use project management software

Avantages

ActiveCollab is pretty straight forward for our needs of project management. The price is reasonable and updates are released on a frequent basis.

Inconvénients

The iOS app needs some update. They feel limited compared to the desktop app and the push notification didn't work.

User-friendly and practical

user interface - design has been a little bit grayish. it would be nice if you could just highlight some parts with the other more vivid colour.

Using the tool is so intuitive. A great plus is the variety of functions esp. for smaller...

Collaboration improvements: every one knows what we are up to in which part of the project and as a manager you can keep track of results and challenges.

Avantages

Variety of functions. To-do and project management. Time tracking and invoicing and reports. For agenies, consultants and other service providers it is all very convenient. Plus it works seemed on Mac - even with an own desktop app and Mobile app.

Inconvénients

Export functions of graphs and reports can be improved. Role system is sometimes not flexible enough, but they always keep you updated on what is going to be improved next so I'm sure it's going to come soon.

Good tool to track time and projects

We are using AC on daily basis for our IT team. Definitely recommend it to track projects progress and spent time.

Avantages

Very intuitive UI, boards are awesome and very complexed reports system.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it has technical issues at login screen (in Google Chrome)

Great tool to manage projects, track progress and collaborate

The main thing is ease. It's really easy to manage projects in ActiveCollab.

Avantages

ActiveCollab is not bloated with features. It works fast and looks nice.

After working with bloated all-in-one systems ActiveCollab is like a breath of fresh air.

New employees don't have any problems with onboarding.

Inconvénients

Sometimes Android app don't show task comments. That's it.

I use ActiveCollab for project and bug/support/evolution requests management

Th e customizing possibilities and the 3 different views we can choose depending the team with whom we communicate

Inconvénients

The lack of link between tickets and the need to move ticket by ticket to have an updated time view.

I have been using this software for past two years and it is more useful for me to track...

Mostly useful for me to track projects and easy to mention and assign projects and different tasks in the same projects, easy to put time in mobile app too and even if im outside of office it is easy to track my works

Inconvénients

Need to imporove scroll options if thae task list is more than 20, it will be better to improve this section and moreover good

Does the job!

Avantages

Easy to use. Simple and efficient. It was easy to learn as quite straightforward layout.

Inconvénients

I don't care much for all the emails popping up everyday in my inbox. However, that might just be me not having change the settings. I will look into that.
