Avantages

Mailgun's pay-as-you-go pricing structure is fantastic, especially if you don't need to send that much email. The pricing, including the free tier, is much more generous than what you can get with some pricier providers, like SendGrid. I mainly just use Mailgun as an SMTP server for web services, and the service has been set-up-and-forget, which is great because I never even have to log onto the Mailgun website and do any work. Mailing list support also looks great for rolling-your-own and not relying on more expensive mailing list services.

Inconvénients

It would be cool to have some client libraries like those that SendGrid provide, but this is also pretty superfluous because the REST API works great and is language agnostic.

Amazing deliverability, reputation management, email validation, logs and analytics features.
Customer friendly, easy to use, developer focussed product.

Inconvénients

Serves the purpose of email API, if you are looking for email templates and marketing automation, you may need to use third part tools.

I liked that the setup and configuration is quite easy. The dashboard allows us to see any analytics or debug data that we could need. The best thing about Mailgun is the integrations that are available. We've never had any issues getting Mailgun up and running in projects. It's to the point where you have multiple package options with varying features or use cases.

Inconvénients

The only downside is if you are using community packages to integrate Mailgun into your projects. You're left waiting for new features or fixes. That is to be expected but you win more than you lose with the help of the open source community.

Avantages

Easy to set up. Easy to use. Our church was using another solution but they got rid of their free/non-profit tier. Mailgun has a generous free tier that has served our church of 700 well.

Inconvénients

Right now it seems that we have issues with AT&T/SBCGlobal.net e-mail addresses rejecting a lot of our e-mails. This has been problematic at times but not a huge issue.

I really like mail gun. It's easy to configure and you can start sending emails immediately. The documentation they provide is easy to use and in an easy way you can implement it.

The free tier is one of the most compelling in the space, 10k free outbounding emails per month coupled with a simple to use API, makes it wonderfully quick to try it out.

They state almost 100% reliability, but I’ve found some issues with spam filters, specially to hotmail accounts. Also, while API is pretty simple to implement, their analytics and admin dashboard is not that much of a pleasant experience… API too easy, the rest a bit too hard.

Avantages

Mailgun webservice implementations are available in many different languages for various platforms such as rails, sinatra, python, php, etc. They have smtp as well as http send options. Once you set up DNS from your domain, it is simple to start programatically sending emails such as from a Shopify app.

Had some issues with their website dashboard loading for some reason, but managed to figure it out. -- the mailgun website was loading blank pages once I logged in.

They have a powerful API that enables you to send, receive and track email effectively. We used it on a few our core projects and it was great.

I didn't like the reporting system as you can't have a customized report generated for you. As I would like to see more data on my campaigns.

I told the salesperson I was doing cold email, maybe even repeatedly.

Several hundred dollars and a messed up campaign later, I find that they don't do cold email.

Tipimail user for a long time in my previous company, I've been force to use Mailgun. Result? Spam, deliverability issues and some much troubles.

Do you need a service that sends out lots of emails? Mailgun does it, with all the tracking that goes with it, from delivery status to spam reports, Mailgun provides the interface for managing all of it.

If you need it to do other things, well, it probably doesn't do that. But then why are you even looking for those things?

This service was the first one I used when I needed automated email management, and for the most part they were fantastic. I would recommend you give them a try if you need API access and other valuable site integration tools.

The API was a little clunky with outdated or incorrect documentation. This might have been resolved now but it made me quit and go to SendGrid.

It is convenient. It works for us. We send Bulk emails out and we did not want to use our own servers, so we purchased this.

No bounces going back so sender. If something bounces, you will never know unless you check the logs(which are only retained for 15 days)

Not really a con but I typically choose SendGrid over Mailgun simply because I've been using SendGrid for so long.

Easy to setup, great docs, amazing cost and ease of implementation. The free 10,000 first email option is excellent and very competitive against other companies such as SendGrid.

After installation everything works but Contact Us does not send messages to any mail address.
Developer's support got also broken after first reply from Chuck.

Mailgun says they have automated systems in place that flag up accounts that look suspicious. These systems don't work and then Mailgun will disable your account without even notice or warning. After answering their questions on the email usage, they will activate the account and then deactivate it again after a few days and ask the same questions again. If you are a small business trying to grow, Mailgun is not for you.
