Jira - a great tool for Tech/DevOps/Product Teams

I am quite pleased with the tool and will continue to utilize it until the Procurement Team forces me to replace the tool. The cost is very reasonable for productivity and the integrations that the tool facilitates. However, the procurement team considers the cost a bit exorbitant and I have to justify the continued utilization every year.

Avantages

Scalability and the abundance of tools they offer to resolve many pressing use cases.

Inconvénients

The reporting is limited to 365 days past the current date. This limitation is very frustrating and restrictive at times.

Good enough for if you're already using Atlassian, but otherwise - no

If you're in the Atlassian ecosystem, it's convenient to use. If you're not, and looking for a project management tool - there are many other options that are likely better for the price. Purchasing Jira separately to me only makes sense for small businesses with less than 10 users on it's lowest plan.

Avantages

I was on an Enterprise plan via Atlassian, and didn't have the highest expectations for Jira - but I learned to love it. The UI isn't the greatest, but it's not bad for the price. Functionality-wise it's not far off from an Asana in terms of tagging and timelines. I like how they took from Confluence's UI to in the boards to help visualize tasks better.

Inconvénients

It's just not enjoyable to use, and your project management tool is something you need to enjoy using everyday. I think it's the UI. It feels cold. Everything is easy to use because it's natural UI, but it's not fun to use and my team agrees.

We actually started with Jira in the marketing team, and decided to switch to Asana completely. I still needed to use Jira though, because I was part of the product team who used it as well. There's plans to transition completely out of Jira for product as well however, so only our developers will use it.

There's no better solution than jira at the moment

I use it for about 6-7 years and it sill gets better. JIRA is a pioneer in the product management filed. You can use different solution, but JIRA is the most frequently chosen tool.

Avantages

Comprehensive sets of tools every Product Owner / Product Manager needs.
Professional, frequently updated, solid tool to manage stories/tasks/bugs and so on.
In brief summary:
- Task fields customization
- Integration with BitBucket (I can easily see what task has been deployed to stage/prod, and what needs to be deployed)
- Integration to slack/google chat that alerts me when deployment has crashed
- Timesheet integration to manage hours spent on a given task
- Confluence integration, where we set our working agreement document, and knowledge base

Inconvénients

Sometimes crash or gets slow, but it happens veeery occasionally. So don't take it as a real disadvantage

Jira a Powerful Tool For Team Collaboration and Task Management.

Jira is flexible and high customizable allowing our teams to streamline their work. Integrates seamlessly with other tools and services thus enhances our productivity and support a connected ecosystem.

Avantages

Jira provides customizable workflows that allow us to adapt to our specific needs.Drag and drop features is great as it saves alot of time.Has an excellent mobile application for both Android and iOS devices. Support both Scrum and Kanban methodologies that help us to manage projects effectively. Offer time tracking feature with color indication that us we are able to use color code to indicate the time spent on tasks thus facilitating tracking.

Inconvénients

My only challenge is in Jira sometimes there is a struggle to handle complex data ,load slowly .

"Great software with plenty of extensibility"

Jira is really helpful as it allows me to easily create and track issues.it helps me work closely with the engineering team keep an eye on ticket updates.

Avantages

Jira is incredibly flexible and it is tailored to fit the needs of our teams and workflows.l like how user can track the issues using epicor releases. I also use Jira tool to manage our sprint board as we work on Agile.we do use Jira intergred with test Rail to have the test cases linked to the particular Jira.

Jira is great and it provides the necessary options.

Jira, the best way to keep track of your work.

I use it to track different jobs that I'm working on. From what parts are involved with my job, to any people involved with it, to any and all actions performed with dates attached to them. It is extremely helpful for tracking my job.

Avantages

Jira is an excellent program for keeping up with all aspects of different jobs.

Inconvénients

The complexity of it and how many different components there are to it. It's likely that people who use it more and are more comfortable with you appreciate this aspect of Jira.

Jira-Add Your Spice

Overall the experience was Good and it is one of the best software when you want to work with a team and assign separate tasks, and we can also share files, comments and we can check on team progress easily.

The thing I like least about Jira is its user interface which is very cluttered and it has a lot of features which takes time to learn for new users.

Powerful for Project Management, but Has a Learning Curve

Jira Service Desk Management for HR

Very positive implementing and using Jira Service Desk Management as a Case Management and Queries Inbox solution.

Quick implementation and adaptive enough to allow for continuous development and improvements to our workflows. With technical resource within the HR function, little to no IT support was required to build or roll out the platform.

Avantages

Jira (Service Desk Management) is incredibly durable and customisable. The system can be designed around internal processes and workflows in order to produce a platform bespoke to requirements. It also integrates very well with a large range of other platforms and services.

Inconvénients

Some of the build and design can be tricky and on occasion due to confusing navigation of the administrative menus and options, especially if your HR function lacks a technical resource or support from IT function.

A fundamental tool for ticket management.

We had two experiences with Jira: one in early 2014, one in 2020.
The first one was a bit painful as it was setup by an external expert who didn't have a clear vision of our company's workflow.

Meanwhile Jira changed and evolved and in 2020 we were able to set up everything on our own matching our own workflows.

We've been working on in it continuosly updating it as our company grow.

Avantages

One of the most complete time tracking and ticket management tools.
Provides the tools to build in-depth flows that fit your own workflow and adapt it to your own changes.

Inconvénients

It requires some pre-setup thinking and adjustment to properly match your workflow.
It doesn't handle multiple assignees to tasks out of the box.

Startup uses Jira to ship fast

We used Jira to run agile methodology for a 8-person team at a startup.

Avantages

First, it was easy to get started with common guiderails. There was a deep feature set that figured out, made Jira flexible for use cases. The integrations with CI/CD & customer success tools were very helpful for keeping the data in Jira up to date.

Inconvénients

The depth of the product made it hard to configure when experimenting with changes to our workflow.

Improves productivity, but misses a few basic features to make it even better

Overall, my experience is very positive. There are minor issues and things you have to work around, depending on the use case. I worked with Jira both as a user and an admin. There were minor issues affecting productivity with both, but it's definitely net-positive even for a smaller team of 2-3 devs.

Avantages

The standout features are the high level of customisability and the development integrations. I was able to set up automations based on our pipelines. We used Bitbucket from Atlassian as a version control system, so the integrations worked even better.

I like that the platform is fairly friendly for smaller dev teams, too. While some features are price-locked behind higher tier plans, it's doable for small teams with lower budget, too. When you need extensions, that's also manageable because most of them are free or cheap under 10 users.

Inconvénients

I had two major problems. First on is that automations are very limited in executions on the lower tier plans. Actions like "assign on transition" should be a basic thing that's included in all plans, unlimited. Assigning tasks to the right person at the right time is crucial for lean operations.

Second is that project duplication doesn't work very well. You lose some of the issue schemes, workflows, etc. At the same time, every time you create a new project, Jira creates new schemes/workflows for it - even if you use the same ones for all of your projects. That creates clutter, and to my knowledge it was impossible to set up a project template in Jira cloud.

Other than that, at times, the interface can encounter bugs. That's understandable with the complexity of the product, but it's still annoying.

Comprehensive Review: Jira – The Powerhouse for Project Management

Actually, experience with Jira is just great because it really supports powerful project management tools, flexible workflows, and the integration of other ascribed tools such as Slack or Confluence. Nonetheless, it is hard to cover its depth even for a single user, much less for new users; however, Jira is useful for projects of larger scale and cross-team collaboration.

A necessity that provides what needs to be provided

A necessity that does the job just okay. Has important functionality that not many other alternatives offer.

Avantages

Every person's contribution is clearly visible as their own. Timestamps are also helpful. Cataloguing and structuring is also good. Good integrations with external applications. I also really like the preview of task links in Atlassian applications.

Inconvénients

Somewhat of an outdated look and feel, however the cloud version is considerably more modern than the old one for sure.

Jira FTW!!

Overall, I am very satisfied. It is the most useful tool in the Atlassian suite for my needs.

Avantages

Jira is user-friendly and also it can be as deep and customizable as need be. It is the backbone of my business for ticketing, collaborating and troubleshooting across all environments.

Inconvénients

If I really have to mention cons, I would say more customizable themes. Other than that, it does the job.

Still a great product that needs to clearly define it's course.

Jira is a great project management tool that we will keep using in the foreseeable future. It has, however, a growing number of shortcomings that, if not addressed, will lead to a migration to Linear.

- Great set of functionalities.
- Great automation.
- Fantastic integration with other tools.

Inconvénients

- Team-managed and company-managed are an unnecessary distinction that create a lot of overhead and annoyance on the project management process.
- Team-managed projects have functionalities that are not present in company-managed projects and vice-versa.
- Lackluster documentation.

Overall top product for software development task tracking and management

Overall, as a product owner, I could not anyway stay on top of things if I would not use Jira daily. Prioritising is the biggest thing for me and our team and Jira helps with that a lot. The product is also startup friendly when it comes to the pricing/subscriptions.

Avantages

Jira, as a part of other Atlassian products, has been improved a lot in the last year. When we started with Jira, we were only using it for development task tracking, nowadays we are using it, along with Confluence and Bitbucket, as the backbone of our technical records. Jira takes time to get to know to, but they are improving the UI towards more user friendly way. I have not yet found any possible alternatives for the overall capabilities of Jira.

Inconvénients

Some part of settings and some more advanced options in Jira are still a bit hard to reach. But you just need to use the docs and search for help from the internet when you feel like you are stuck. There are a lot of Jira users out there and many of the issues you will face when using it, have been recognised and people have found word arounds.

Jira is a great team communication tool once it's set up correctly

It's a great tool once the customization has been worked out to suit the business and team needs.

Management had to get involved to make using this tool a requirement. Users hate change.

Avantages

Dashboard representation. Once the customization has been set up, the maintenance of stories and moving them through the stages is easy.

Inconvénients

Takes a while to set up and customize to get the Project stages correct. Not intuitive.

A good experiece with Jira as a software development management tool

I am working with Jira for more than 10 years as a software developer, mid level management and VP,
It can give clear process management feature from different hights (zoom in and zoom out)

The best thing about Jira is that the product is very (very) user friendly and easy to onboard,
In addition it's highly customizable

Inconvénients

It's hard to tell what is less working in Jira, but as a platform it sometimes lacks features where you need to go to the marketplace to find the missing features and it can have an additional cost

The best part about Jira in our company is we are able to create ,assign and monitor issue through customizable workflows.Tracking legal cases ,client matters and court deadlines is fast and easy.Generate reports for client billing and cost management. The great dashboard helps us to visualise legal risks and pending compliance actions.It automates workflow processes make them more manageable for us and reduces a huge amount of manual work.

Inconvénients

I find it having a big learning curve for a new user since it require a lot of learning to be able to use most of its features effectively.

JIRA in startup environment

Iqö using JIRA on a daily basis with all the teams. It is allowing us to see the workload of shared resources like technicians, software, design etc. that we have in between different teams and that are more difficult to handle in term of resource management. It is also allowing us to show the plan and the next steps of our company in it as much as handle the progress of our program. We also try to handle the problems in it like ITticket probleö or progrqö probleö to be solved coming from our team.

Avantages

It is a really easy tool, you can understand it quickly and most of the features can be handled very quickly without any major training, I would say that even by yourself with a bit of time of discovery, you can almost find everything needed. And this is a really interesting tool in the agile environment and as a team working tool.

Inconvénients

We need to have a clear direction and a bit of rigor if we want this tool to be powerful, things can become quickly useless if everyone does whatever they want in it. Maybe the KPI side of this tool is a bit more complicated and sometimes too difficult to handle properly.

At the start it's intimidating due to the huge amount of tools it offers, but once you figure them out it becomes a very useful tool with tons of options and the ability to customize things to best accommodate your team and automate the management process.

Incredibly complete and robust project management tool. Has basically everything, and gives you the ability to power things up even further by programming custom logics, both inside the tool and outside, by using its API.

Figuring out which template works best, and what are their differences, can take a while.

E2E With Jira

My overall experience with Jira has been awesome. I used Jira in multiple projects and I prefer Jira over the other similar tools available in the market. The APIs from Jira offer a great flexibility to integrate with automation code. I will recommend Jira to manage and plan your work.

Avantages

Jira offers a lot of great features specially the end to end application life cycle management. Integration with test case management tools like ATM, Xray, Zephyr offer a great flexibility and options to manage test cases, execution and planning. I liked the Dashboard widget options and ease to create custom queries with Jira. The charts and trend give a lot of good insight into the project.

Inconvénients

I worked on many other tools similar to Jira but Jira is the best tool I liked. I don't find anything which I don't like about Jira. However, there were few times when I had to do some workaround to create the test execution reports but that's not a concern.

Project and product management in one place

Jira is an excellent tool to manage agile projects, manage team's tasks, test and log bugs etc.

Avantages

Inconvénients

When moving one ticket to another project, we sometimes love some data that was available in custom fields, such as acceptance criteria. This can be found in history, but to re-add you need to reformat etc.

Works as Expected

I have been using Jira for a while and saw it evolve with time. I have also used other tools but haven't got the same experience as with Jira. It's really easy to quickly track work, go back to add more details, and customize the platform for my needs. Overall, I am happy with it.

Avantages

The UI is clean and there is a lot of customization options with features like JQL, boards and projects. It's really easy to setup a project, a board, add people, and then customize the swimlanes however the team likes. This is for me a really important feature because even though we all follow agile, not everyone adopts the same principles and methodologies. Teams should be able to adapt the tool to their needs and that's a big step towards success. The reports are also ok, at least for a quick glance at the performance of a certain project (with burndown chart, velocity, etc.). I've also used the API for some automated actions, it works as expected for me.

Inconvénients

Bulk actions are quite hard to do. There are some easy actions (like moving a group of issues to a sprint) but if we try to do something more complex like closing a group of tasks as Done with a certain sub-status (ex. Cancelled, Won't Do, etc.) it's not easy for me at all. Finally, the pricing seems a bit high for smaller teams and starting companies.

Not Great, not terrible

Using Jira feels a bit like working with an old partner—reliable, but rough around the edges. It gets the job done, sure, and when it’s working smoothly, you appreciate the structure it brings. It helps you keep track of every detail, and when you’re neck-deep in issues, that’s a lifesaver.

But it’s not always quick, or clean. Sometimes it makes you jump through hoops to get simple things done. You get bogged down in configurations, settings that don’t play nice together, and the whole thing can feel heavier than it should. It’s like trying to get answers from a witness who keeps dodging questions—you’ll get there eventually, but not without some frustration.

Overall, Jira’s solid. It’s got the tools you need to keep things moving, but don’t expect it to hold your hand. You’ve got to be willing to put in the time to make it work for you.

I use Jira every day as part of my scrum team - it is a great way to visualize tasks and collaborate to achieve our goals

It makes it really easy to see tasks and work in an agile way to achieve our goals as a team. I like the sprint boards that you can customize with different headings so there is transparency about the status of tasks across the team.

Inconvénients

It can be a little bit buggy at times. Some days it seems to run really slowly and be quite laggy as you are navigating around the site. It also doesnt auto update when someone is making changes to the board - you have to refresh to see what changes have been made which can be a little annoying and lead to some repetition

Jira is AWESOME!!!

It’s a pleasure to use this tool and I get excited when I see companies using it because it I understand the efficiency it creates internally for teams.

Avantages

The collaboration and transparency the tool creates inter-departmentally and cross functionally between companies is phenomenal.

Inconvénients

Would love a way to request permissions within the product. I currently need to reach out to parties outside of the platform via email when I don’t have permissions to certain documents or boards, or want to be a watcher on a ticket. It would be nice if there was an ask for permission button within the browser.

Track, collaborate, integrate CI/CD platforms in an agile environment using Jira

I have been using it for 4 years in a row now and the experience has been immersive. It is the first thing I use while beginning my day at work. I track the tasks at hand and begin working with higher priority items. It is simpler to use over a period of time and easily checkout branches in github using the commands specified in the Jira UI. I am a current user of Jira and it has improved a lot over years and it is just the way I want my agile project to be tracked, collaborate on a team level and achieve milestones

Avantages

I like the concept of agile sprint management which Jira is designed for. I like the way tasks are arranged on the Jira task board. It has a way of defining sprint points for each task which helps enables the team and stakeholders to identify the resource consumption and time taken to deliver the story. It also enables me to track the progress of my own tasks on an individual level and collaborate on a team level. It comes with integration with CI/CD tools like github as well

Inconvénients

The linking of tasks to current sprint can be more simpler. Also initial learning of this platform takes some time if you are from a non technical background. The UI has scope of improvement, can be more modular

Excellent Tool

Overall I would rate it good, it's a perfect tool for any software or even non-software organization. I think the backend team is quite innovative and creative that I feel I would not think of any other alternative for the next 10 years.

Avantages

It's Easy to use, the user interface is quite user friendly. Almost everything self explanatory, from raising a bug to closing it, resolving it. If any new person who has never used JIRA, starts using it, it wouldn't take more than 1-2 days for him/her to fully understand it. Additionally it provides you an option of extracting reports where you can view/track your/your team's performance, the work load and many more things which would help you take decisions.
I also like the feature of creating dashboards in JIRA, it gives a rich and professional look to your work, which you can showcase to your team, management and other stakeholders.

Inconvénients

There's not much but the scope of reports and dashboard is sometimes limited like I wish to include more options/filters but I couldn't.

Jira simplifies project management for teams.

On my own, I like Jira extensive issue tracking system. It lets me write thorough tickets that catch everything and hold my team accountable. I have not encountered many options with the ability to adapt processes to our project.

The project management tool for anything & everything

To me, Jira has a very intuitive user interface and can be used pretty much for everything that could be a project. I also like that "everything is an issue" setup.

Avantages

Jira is the perfect project management tool for me. It has very much customization options for projects to perfectly match what I want to achieve.
I like the different project types and the templates, they are useful to just get started. It also integrates perfectly in Confluence and other Atlassian products.

Inconvénients

The Web interface is a bit slow, especially when navigation much through different tasks. Although the mobile app is super clean, there are some missing features overall.

Once the project is over and due to the fluidity of jira structure. Its impossible to get all the information in a consolidated manner.
It is as good as the people who are managing it. Tool should be able to provide information the absence of processes but its other way around with JIRA .. Use AI.
