Clio - An Ever-Evolving Tool

Overall, our firm has been using Clio for over 11 years and we are pleased with how it allows us to manage our clients and billing.

Avantages

As the person who handles our billing, I like the convenience that Clio Payments adds for our clients and my team.

Inconvénients

Although they continue to evolve, some features and options could still be improved upon.

Clio is a great tool

Overall Clio is a good tool that helps to keep you focused on earnings. It does glitch from time to time but my experience is that most legal software does that. I appreciate the fact that Clio seems to be constantly improving and they are open to user feedback. The support is also excellent.

Avantages

I like the interface and I like that Clio focuses on profitability and showing you your earnings. I love the ease of billing and the preset feature for reports.

Inconvénients

Clio tends to have latency issues. I would also like it if Clio would automatically add time entries for completed tasks with estimated times on them.

Clio works well for my law firm!

Very good overall experience. Will keep using it. We also use "Clio Grow" to assist with marketing and new client sign-ups.

Avantages

User friendly, has good features, also accessible on phone app.

Inconvénients

I don't know how to take full advantage of it.

Clio was the best investment I made in the early days of my law firm

My overall experience has been great. I was in an incubator program with other attorneys starting their own practice and, because I have Clio, I didn't have the struggles with tracking and billing that my peers had. I am glad I started using Clio when I only had a few clients because I have been able to learn as my firm has gown.

Avantages

Clio makes it so easy to track of all the things that are important to me: potential clients, active clients, attorney time, billing, firm financial goals, etc. Even when my solo practice was just a side-hustle, Clio Manage more than paid for itself in time-savings and ease of use. Clio customer service has been excellent - the live help is really easily accessible for setup and problem-solving; the online articles and videos are great for on-demand help.

Inconvénients

There is a lot of functionality in Clio that I don't use yet - there is so much that I could be doing with it, but it is hard to make time for the next new thing when I am also running a law firm. There are some add-ons that are marketed as having connectivity to/ compatibility with Clio that are redundant and don't make sense for my practice: for, example, QuickBooks will talk to Clio but the billing and tracking were redundant with what was already happening in Clio (I already billed through clio and I didn't need to do it through QB; and I can categorize spending through my actual bank accounts, so I didn't need it to do that, either). The only thing QB did that Clio didn't *already do* was deal with (part of) payroll for my one assistant (then I found out QB was incorrectly calculating my state worker comp amounts and I dumped QB and got a bookkeeper to help with my employee needs).

Clio for Small Law Firm

It’s great to have everything all in one software

I wish they had a better way to communicate with clients within the software where the client can see all of the different matters and all of the real time status of billing and paperwork

Clio Meets My Firm's Needs

I'm still in the process of moving all my files from Firm Central to Clio. But so far, I'm very satisfied.

Avantages

I came to Clio because Thomson Reuters discontinued its Firm Central case-management product, and I needed a replacement. Clio has all the functionality that Firm Central did, but in a more logical, easier to use interface. I found that, with minimal instruction, I was able to get up and running. The Clio onboarding process was very effective.

Inconvénients

Clio was designated by Thomson Reuters as its preferred partner to replace Firm Central. In that role, I would have expected the Clio team to have been a little more up-to-speed on the best way to migrate from Firm Central to Clio. Clio's team does migrate your data, and that went very smoothly. But "data" doesn't include documents, which is the bulk of what we were storing in Firm Central. Clio has no advice on how to move those documents. They simply recommended three third-party vendors. I contacted the one that advertises that it specializes in migration to Clio. It was going to charge me $3,000 to upload my files into Clio. But I'd still have to figure out how to get them out of Firm Central, which was my major challenge. Once I had them downloaded, Clio makes it easy to upload. At any rate, Firm Central's instructions were helpful, and the process went fairly smoothly.

Great Experience

Customer service is amazing. Whenever you need someone, they're always there to help out.

Personal injury is a unique area of law that requires special features, and Clio could improve in this area

Great Platform!

It's been great, overall! It's a bit time-consuming and tedious to use a platform as robust as Clio, but I think that would be true of any such platform. On the whole, I believe Clio is the best platform of its kind.

Avantages

I like Clio's overall reliability and functionality. It's great for firms of virtually all sizes. Also, every time I have interacted with any member of the Clio team, they have been nothing but helpful and friendly! They're a pleasure to work with.

Inconvénients

Clio Payments *still* doesn't offer a "Buy Now / Pay Later" option, though their primary competitor, LawPay, does. Additionally, there are some weird invoicing issues that crop up in admittedly rare use cases. Finally, Clio Grow and Clio Manage don't work as seamlessly together as one might hope, and there aren't enough integrations with third party apps, sites, and services (Legal Match comes to mind, among others).

A fantastic legal ops product!

I've had a great run with Clio. It's packed with features that make my legal work a lot smoother, especially with all the docketing and billing. Plus, their support team is very helpful. It's been a game changer for the firm!

Avantages

Clio simplifies docketing, billing and keeping client files organized, offering streamlined processes and automation that significantly reduce administrative overhead.

Inconvénients

My least favorite aspect of Clio is the separation between Clio Manage and Clio Grow. These platforms offer complementary features essential for client file management and intake processes, yet their division necessitates two separate subscriptions. This separation not only increases costs but also complicates what could be a more streamlined workflow.

A Solid Start

No One Got Fired for Using the Market Leader

Avantages

Integrations with every major legal techonology. Bascially the hub of our legal tech stack with the other products being spokes. Love the community and Cliocon. Always looking to see if competitors have improved enough to consider leaving - they have not.

Inconvénients

No legal CRM is perfect. It's the least worst option but have noticed a change in their focus to upselling. There has been little improvement or development on main Clio program for base users - all new features are being pushed non-step in atttempt to increase revenue per user.

Need to use Fasterlaw to get the most out of Clio on windows.

We've used Clio for over a decade!

I have been a user since Clio was a baby and have always loved it and have recommended it to many other legal professionals!

Avantages

Fast and easy and everything we need is all in one place.

Inconvénients

There is no way to send one document that is both an invoice and a trust request so that you can show clients where their money has gone and how much they need to send in to replenish their trust again.

Good but can use some improvements.

Overall, my experience with Clio is good, and I would love to see some improvements, specifically making Clio Grow and Clio Manage more similar.

Estate Planning & Probate/Trust Law Firm

I am a tinkerer and don't mind getting under the hood, so I love it - I customize all my templates, use the task lists and auto-document generation all the time, I honestly recommend Clio to every person I talk about it with.

that you listen to your clients suggestions and implement features that a lot of attorneys request. I have been with Clio for over 5 years now and love this the most about your company

Custom fields are still a nightmare - would be great to have some kind of overview for all merge fields across Manage/Grow, have them sync up better

Great Case Management Software

I have had a very positive experience with Clio and I am very satisfied with the product.

Avantages

Clio is intuitive and easy to use. I also love that the team is forward-thinking and always deploying new features that enhance productivity. As a solo practitioner, Clio grow is exceptional and a tool everyone should be using. I can manage my leads with very little overhead. Additionally, Clio support always goes above and beyond

Inconvénients

Initially, I did not understand why Clio Grow and Clio Manage were separate products. However, the integration between the two is seamless, and I have grown to love the distinct nature of the two products.

I love CLIO

I am very happy with CLIO. I find it to be quite intuitive

Avantages

I like how easy it is to use CLIO (including CLIO Grow) from pre-client stage to setting up files, to timekeeping, to invoicing. It is pretty much seamless. I also really like the service I receive when I have questions.

I have trouble organizing the custom fields. I still have not figured this out.

Clio Manager

Overall Clio is great for a firm who have large cases, and need a program that is a one-stop shop.

Avantages

Overall Clio works well, it is a very efficient online management software for PI cases. I like the fact that it is compatible with YoCierge( a medical record retrieval company) which makes case management flow easily.

Inconvénients

The only problem I have with Clio is the facts how it process the expenses for each case.

Overall, a good product. I used it because I was familiar with the program from my paralegal and law school experience.

Amazing all-in-one practice management software for a busy transactional practice

Avantages

Our firm built lean business processes right on the Clio backbone. Managing the firm is efficient and takes far less time than traditional tools, requiring less staff knowledge and time while maintaining consistency.

Inconvénients

I wish I could save emails from Outlook for iOS directly to matter files. RIght now I have to file email on the desktop/laptop.

My overall experience is wonderful. The customer service is helpful and patient and product itself is easy to use and navigate.

Avantages

I like the ease of use and cloud based so its on my phone and computer. The billing features are wonderful and the ease of sending a client a retainer letter and having it signed and paid quickly. I also like how I manage each client and matter on an easy to use interface. It is very customizable.

Inconvénients

When I need to modify an invoice, it can get confusing.

Clio Review

Avantages

I like that it has a lot of features and not much needs to be outsourced.

Inconvénients

When there are outages it delays work. I also dislike the edit feature of pending approval bills. It is not user friendly.

Great for Canadian Immigration practitioners

I've had a good experience overall with CLIO.

Avantages

I looked at several case management systems for my immigration practice, it really checked all the boxes when it came to intake, client invoicing, and helping my remote team stay organized.

Inconvénients

I don't have a lot to complain about, it is not a cheap solution so the pricing is high.

Great Tool

Avantages

What I like the most about Clio is that is very easy to use and they offer a very knowledgeable team with excellent customer service.

Inconvénients

If I must say something, it would be the fact that Clio Grow and Clio Manage do not "communicate" or transfer information to one another. You have to manually do it.

Strongly Recommend Clio

Avantages

Clio offers ease of use, efficient case management, and combines calendaring between potential clients along with existing clients. Clio offers a one stop client management system that places client files at my fingertips whether in office or out office.

Inconvénients

I found difficulty without assistance form customer support to create document templates that merge properly for my invoices, pleadings and letters.

Trying Legal help app

I didnt see the chat list or previous convo because it will disappear when someone message unless they message on the same thread. It should have chat box for group and individual chat should have an indicator

Check their work

Great for time tracking, troubling on the accounting end. Customer support used to be great but now it’s shorter on solutions and higher on upselling

Time tracking. Very easy to use and no complaints here

Inconvénients

Trust accounting errors. This is of course terrifying when the program indicates transfers have been made from trust to a balance but the transaction isn’t reflected on the balance

If you don't have it now, NOW is the time

Avantages

Clio has everything that a law firm needs to operate. If it doesn't it integrates with the necessary app. Clio is the total package.

Inconvénients

I wish Clio would be able to keep an accounting of other or multiple accounts, not just Trust Accounts.

Why Clio Works for me

I really like it! The user face is friendly and helpful. And the Tech Support is Outstanding!

Avantages

Once I got the hang of it, I love the Document and time management features.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it's a little tricky to load on my computer.. And I'm trying to learn everything all at once. Management demands expertise after a few cases. I'm not young anymore. And rushing my learning won't help with Learning vs.rote memorization!

Great !!! Clio is phenomenal in its ability to send bills to clients.

Actually, I love Clio in its ability to manage all of my cases and there are reports about each of the data to those cases.

Clio—good but not great.

Overall, I like clio but needs too many expensive integrations to do everything I need.

Lots on integrations with third party software. Program is relatively easy to use, and support is good.

Inconvénients

Did not have integrated passive time tracking and document automation.

Clio Works so you can work.

Very good experience. There is always someone to answer your questions via the chat feature. It just works.

Avantages

I like the ease of producing bills. I like the integration with my Gmail. Customer support has been excellent from the start. I am having a small problem with integration that they have been working on and I have heard back from them each day.

Inconvénients

I would like to be able to access my files in more of a "file-like interface". It would also be nice if the contents of an Order, say one setting a hearing could be read by AI and prompt you to confirm the creation of a calendar setting.

Clio develops the WIP budget in my company

Clio is designed for freelance professionals and small businesses. It handles a small portion of complicated cases and handles date management and payment. I think it would be outstanding in a massive class. Clio has more features and seems to be working on constantly improving. I recommended some suggestions for work that I thought would be helpful. Those suggestions went into a black hole, with the insinuation that I would attempt a confluence application of various bugs. Clio is getting quite a bit of money because of the legal experts who use their program.

Avantages

All I need to do is turn on Clio in the morning and press the button to start the timing if I feel lazy to casually type a few words. It is possible to see how far behind or ahead of budget I am in terms of jobs, payments and invoicing. There is some repetition (database skills), and he has another colleague to manage the data for him when he is on vacation and doesn't have Clio, but these are minor quibbles.

Inconvénients

This feature is likely to be useful in many people's practices, but I don't use it. Clio must find a way to accommodate all the documents that have a certain name that I can access through Clio. On the contrary, I use Hazel and Dropbox.

Solid, i like it and will continue to use it.

I really enjoy clio. I think both programs are great for their own reasons.

Avantages

I like how easy it is to manage my case load, add events to my calendar, keep track of important dates, keeping track of my time, and billing.

Inconvénients

Clio grow and Manage are linked, but i would prefer if emails sent through grow would be cataloged in manage.

Clio works!

I have used CLIO for at least 5 years, probably longer, and my overall experience has been nothing short of fantastic. I recommend CLIO to any friends and/or colleagues in the legal profession as an excellent tool for managing clients, cases, billing, etc.

Avantages

Clio plays nice with other software used by my firm. Clio provides enough flexibility to work with many different practice areas in the legal field. The billing is simple enough, and with constantly updated features, CLIO is improving almost daily.

Inconvénients

The learning curve can be problematic, but that is true with most software (and technology).

Avantages

Clio Manage is very user friendly and cost-effective. It is a highly valuable part of my law office.

I cannot think of any cons about Clio to note.
