There are normally 1-5 hidden files of metadata on the root directory of each user's area - this can be annoying if you can see hidden files on your computer
It would be good to have better integration with Microsoft Office, including having NextCloud as a shared area that you can save directly to (both on PC and mobile)
A special section in File Explorer is not setup like OneDrive or Dropbox - instead it syncs to a folder (although this can be pinned to quick access)

Avantages

Best thing in nextcloud it's being open-source and you can host it by yourself. I think this is the most valuable thing in world with constant privacy violations and data leaks. Plus it's very functional, scalable and feature rich. When you use nextcloud, your and your companys data is truely yours.

I love that Nextcloud is open source. I love the philosophy of the Nextcloud company as it works to serve and better humanity by making this amazing software available for anyone to download and use. The file syncing, the ability to integrate many 3rd party networking/storage, the chat/talk communication programs, the SECURITY and privacy, the Deck Kanban app, the mail app, music playing app, and the intuitive structure of the file storage console, and other apps and especially the ability to create your own apps and customize the core app---all combined, this app is wonderful.

Inconvénients

The only thing I can say in this regard is that the core team perhaps could take more measures to inform 3rd party app developers of breaking changes that might arise when new versions are released.

The desktop is client sometimes slow and hogging users CPUs when transferring many files. Some other bugs in the client are the greatest problem but they improve slowly.

I am using nextcloud since from 4 years, and i found it is really solid, efficient and consistent platform. It can accomplish really well to the service provided. It is also not so difficult to install (but this is true just for expert administrator) and configure. I am using to store personal data, documents and photos and never had any problem. I just would like to have more features available in order to build a multi functional platform. I have been using some app like mail, Note, Task and all flow perfectly

I will appreciate a easy way to share the elaboration of documents.

Nextcloud has many features that are all free to use as long as you host them on your own server or even on a local computer. From hosting files and photos, do handling your kanban or contacts, anything you have on a big tech company can be transfer to Nextcloud and you win by having a full privacy.

Inconvénients

As the software is immense, every parts are not maintained and improved at the same rate. So for some apps there are missing features that would be useful.
It is often slower than the other big tech services but mostly depending on your own hosting power.
It should be more broadly advertised so that even non techie persons can setup a Nextcloud instance and start using it.

Ease of use, fantastic community support, good docs, easy system administration and maintenance, incredibly useful apps besides file storage, sync across devices works like a charm

PHP updates sometimes tedious but that isn't really nextcloud's fault

First: it's a private cloud which should be a serious argument for anyone placing confidental data in the cloud.

Second: it just works like a charme for sharing files, calendars and addresses using some DAV-standard.

Third: much effort is put into the product to enhance it with lots of collaboration features.

Search is poor in the sense that there is no integrated setup for this. Integration of Elasticsearch is described, but its way to complicated. Should be integrated as optional enhancement into regular setup procedures.

A wiki may be to much to ask for, but that's what we realized by another product.

Integrating mindmapping makes some progress which is a needed feature.

Some whiteboard feature would be nice.

A free tier is offered with a large host of features that you won't get on the hosted competiton (Dropbox) except in the higher tiers. Love the versioning features as well as sharing files.

Inconvénients

Upgrading can be difficult although it has come a long way since the split from OwnCloud. Also for those not tech savy the initial setup can be a bit complex, for those I would recommend a docker image.

Its free, stable, easy to use and costumize. Has many plugins and low requerimients. We use it with Collabora Online and set up our own sharing, documenting and backup platform in only a few days, been using it without issues since.

Excellent cloud storage and sharing tools, but the add-ons are really where Nextcloud shines e.g. the ability to spin up a Kanban board, or a groupware calendar or many others.

The product enables users to sync data to a cloud instance which is fully under their control. The feature set is extensive and clients exist for all major desktop and mobile platforms. It is reliable and high performing.

Building a solid HA Nextcloud infrastructure for 5.000 users is a challenging goal for out teams. It was pretty long to qualify/test/setup/deploy every brick of the cluster. But It really was worth the effort.

We like the possibility that we can use Nextcloud as a post box for guests, who want to share documents with us. We implemented a link to our website where customers are being redirected to and there they can upload files. This is not possible in OneDrive. That's why we chose Nextcloud.

Too many redundant services. You can use tags, share docs in Circles (group of users), share docs in Nextcloud Talk. But everywhere you have to select the group again. I don't understand the purpose of Circles if I separated my users with the group function already.

Sometimes the desktop client suffers from some syncing issues related to conflicting files. When it happens ,it is easier to uninstall the desktop client, delete all local files, reinstall the client and restart the syncing process. One of our users forgot to uninstall the desktop client before deleting all local files and it resulted in the loss of several files on our servers, which reinforces the need to establish strict permissions to users.

The fact that It's under my control. My photos, document, and File are saved to my server. If I take a photo or create a document on my phone when I get home it syncs automatically and I don have to worry about it.
Nextcloud is all in one I can download upload my work listen to music from the radio app. I use the bookmark feature to keep up with all my web pages, Take notes and so much more.

A backup process just for Nextcloud, with a time-shift like a program, so that if an update fails So that if something goes wrong I could find a good recovery point and reinstall from the backup process.

I love that not only can you self-host this server, ensuring that any data I store is for my eyes and my eyes only. Not only that, but updates are quick and easy. Administrators receive a notification in the web interface for any updates (apps, server, etc.) and can easily use the interface to update Nextcloud. Not only that, but there are many apps and services developed for Nextcloud for expanding its capabilities, including CalDAV, Collabora (for editing Word documents), and CardDAV.

Inconvénients

I believe some things can be improved, like better implemented end-to-end encryption and dark mode, which is in beta but does not work with a few things. Other than this, Nextcloud works extremely well.

This tool is the best for sharing files between users. It integrates on any LDAP base, whether AD or Openldap, which facilitates its implementation and integration with your current environment. It supports several applications such as pdf reader, images, email, text editor. agenda among other productivity tools.

Nextcloud is quite a unique software. If you are looking for a really secured cloud storage that allows online collaboration among your team members, Nextcloud is your best bet. Compared to other cloud storage, it is highly scalable and self-hosted. Meaning all our files are stored in our own data center. Not on any external servers. It makes you worry less because you know that you have control and access with your own data. It works exactly like any cloud storage. You can migrate all your documents, music and photos to the cloud. And then Nextcloud makes them accessible through any device.

Inconvénients

Nextcloud, while a very secured cloud storage, is not very easy to use. You still need to familiarize yourself with the system so there's quite a learning curve involved. It tends to be slow in accessing the files especially if they are huge files. Setting up the server is very complicated and an average joe cannot do it. An IT person must be the one to set up with the help of Nextcloud representatives. Pricing is also very expensive and not pocket friendly. But then again, you are paying for the unmatched security features Nextcloud offers, which you cannot get from other providers.

The easy setup and use and the reliable synchronisation. It doesn't trip with millions of small files. It's also great that I got my data completely under my control without anyone else having any access to it.

Inconvénients

The encryption does pose some issues sometimes and especially during upgrades. When using multiple machines that synchronize the same account NextCloud creates conflicted copies in folders that weren't changed in years. Large files are synchronized completely (for example Outlook PST) instead of just the changes.

The ease of deployment of NextCloud (I'm using a Snap container) is ridiculously easy. The interface for a free and open source app is amazing! I love the ability to customize the login screen and it integrates well with Active Directory. It's easy to setup once installed as well. The Windows and Mac apps work like a champ.

Some of the functionality I'm used to in OneDrive or Google Drive (right-clicks and other minor UI issues) doesn't exist in NC. It's a mostly Web 2.0 app, but a few changes would make it almost perfect.

setup a self-hosted environment to put it's capabilities to the test. so far, performance and stability has exceeded my expectations. setting up the self-hosted environment was clean and relatively painless. It has done everything I have asked of it but I am still looking to see what else I can do. Looking forward to rolling this platform out my my engineering team.

I manage as user and administrator in the application. It is user-friendly considering its ease of use and it is a combination of google drive and whatsapp applications. It is easy to install and use. You can host your server wherever you want. Message delivery times are provided with instant notification. Application entries are made with two factor authentication system.

What I see lacking is that it has little graphical content. Some more user attention can be made. It can be used using a theme, but it is not clear whether it is reliable.
