The exam is solid and originally the training was not easy to follow however they’ve made great changes over the past year and it’s still much better.

I love the security it provides with very little hassle for the end user. When properly setup, it adds safe boundaries for your client's systems to run in without a big hit to performance.

Inconvénients

ThreatLocker is a complex tool with a lot of different moving parts. It's not plug-and-play, set it and forget it style tool. Your time is required to set it up properly and manage it. There is a large time commitment required up front.

HOWEVER, ThreatLocker doesn't just sell to you and then drop you in the mess and charge you for their help like other companies. They provide regular check-ins with their support team to ensure our environment is running optimally. Also they have 24-7 support always ready to help us with any question about the service or best practices. They provide a university platform to train your team to run the software. It's not a set it and forget it product... but if you put in the work, the payoff is huge!

Elevation Control and Application Control are both fantastic.
Constantly evolving.

Inconvénients

ThreatLocker is constantly evolving which is fantastic however this can sometimes result in some unpredictability. Their support team is usually right on it though and it is a small price to pay for the improvements that are made on a regular basis.

Honestly- nothing comes to mind The team at Threatlocker are so willing to teach you and guide you through the process that it made this software a nobrainer.

Avantages

Application whitelisting was fairly effortless for the vast majority of our implementation. Threatlocker was able to learn all of our applications automatically and can handle updates to these applications without our intervention. When custom rules are required the UI guides you through the process. The UI also does a good job of alerting administrators if you create any policies that are not secure or too broad in scope.

Network control provides and easy interface to implement network micro segmentation. The audit tools make determining what needs to talk on each port between hosts simple.

ThreatLocker Administrator Password System in configuration manager allowed us to retire our Microsoft Local Administrator Password Solution. Setup took less 5 minutes and involved no complicated GPO's or additional programs.

Support is instant and knowledgeable. There is very little if any wait to talk to someone for help anytime of day via chat.

Inconvénients

The Network control portion is prone to hiccups when using threatlocker specific objects and switching networks.

I've looked into application allow listing several times in the course of my career, and it always seemed to be too difficult to do and require far too much management. ThreatLocker actually figured out how to do this in a way that works. It's still involved, but it's an incredibly well designed product that allows us to do application allow listing, privilege access management for applications, and network and storage control. We have a lot of applications that require admin rights to run (or to update), but with ThreatLocker we can manage which applications can run with elevated privileges and which can't. The application control ensures our users can't install any apps that we haven't approved, which makes it easier for us to ensure we have a consistent environment from user to user and also cuts down on shadow IT. It's really helped us move towards a more secure environment and to implement more elements of Zero Trust.

It's an immense application with a lot of parts and that can be confusing and overwhelming at times, but their support is terrific. They claim to answer all support requests within a minute, and, so far, when we've needed support we've had someone in chat support within a minute. If the support incident requires more than chat support, it quickly gets escalated to a Zoom meeting (and by "quickly" I mean a matter of minutes). We also rely on our Solutions engineer a lot. He's always willing to carve out a meeting time where we can dig into particular aspects of the product and he can walk us through solutions and features in a way that helps us learn to better manage the product and it's features.

All of the folks we've interacted with a ThreatLocker (our account manager, support, our solutions engineer, etc) have been terrific. They know the product is complicated, but they helped us to implement the product in a way that ensured we'd be successful. This isn't a company that sells you a product and walks away. They reach out on a regular basis, which makes me feel like we have a partner in them and not just a software vendor.

I also like ThreatLocker University (their training site) because it has a ton of good content that's targeted to specific parts of the product and is normally broken into 20-30 minute training sessions, so you can do a deep dive into a single area in a short amount of time. I use it a lot if I need a quick refresher on how to manage a feature.

It's an incredibly complex product and it can be overwhelming sometimes. It also does require a fair amount of maintenance. The maintenance goes down with some time and fine tuning, but it will never be a product where you set it and forget it. But I think the company is aware of that which is why they've built a strong and quick to respond support organization,

My experience with ThreatLocker has been particularly positive, largely due to the outstanding technical support they offer. Adopting new technologies or software such as Threatlocker has a long learning curve. A Significant amount of time and effort is required by all to become proficient and master this cybersecurity tool. The extended learning period can pose challenges such as reduced productivity, frustration, and increased training costs.

Avantages

I'm a big fan of the VM to test install certain products to see what they install and change. I am also a big fan of the ringfencing feature.

Inconvénients

Honestly, I haven't come across anything I dislike about the platform. I have found it easy to use and navigate.

The software is powerful but like all security tools questions surface that require rapid vendor clarification or direction and the Threatlocker's "Cyber Hero" support the solution is taken to much a higher level - most issues are reviewed and resolved by the Threatlocker support team while the questionable ones related to how our company wants to proceed are forwarded with the data needed for us to make quick security decisions. End result: a high security profile with minimal user frustration - very unusual these days.

ThreatLocker is a very reliable product that our company has been using for a while. It has successfully caught numerous threats and prevented us from falling victim to various cyber attacks.

Inconvénients

ThreatLocker can be quite sensitive when downloading content from the internet, even from trusted websites. I often need to submit a ticket and wait for team approval. Sometimes it disrupts my workflow because I have to wait for an approval. However, given the statistics, the extra steps are worth it.

ThreatLocker locks the workstations and servers' ability to install new or unapproved software and applications. Its straightforward interface allows users to request approval to install new applications. The protection is true for regular users as well as administrators.

It can be overwhelming at the beginning to set up and understand - though support is top-notch.

I would like to preface this by saying that I am still fairly new to ThreatLocker. However, I have had a very positive experience both in onboarding with [sensitive content hidden] and the application itself. So far, the most used case has been managing application installs for users, which has mostly been effortless.

Inconvénients

The only negative experience I've had so far has been when an application was updated, but ThreatLocker saw this application as a new one post-update. This was mostly a minor inconvenience and methods to make the application accessible to the entire organization again were shared when I brought this up with my representative.

Avantages

What I like the most is the ThreatLocker support, it's excellent! Most of my questions have been answered through the university or the help page. Both are fantastic tools. That being said, if I can't find what I need, I message the Cyber Heroes, they respond almost instantly. They're very polite, knowledgeable and follow the problem through until you're happy to close the ticket. It's nice to know that if you're stuck or unsure, someone has your back.

Inconvénients

I find that sometimes ThreatLocker doesn’t always elevate an application when it has been set on approval. This is an intermittent issue that I need to raise with the TreatLocker team when it happens again. I am sure it is an easy fix and I know the Cyber Heroes will be happy to look into.
This is the only thing that I can think of that is negative.

Avantages

Complete control. As an MSP, Threatlocker has taken our security stack to the next level. Application control, Elevation, Storage control and now recently we are adding Networking and evironment hardening with Configuration manager to the stack. We needed a product to give us better central control than RMM products offer and Threatlocker has delivered and beyond for our company. The University and support are also excellent.

Inconvénients

The learning curve and initial noise of implementing the system brings some additonal work and training challenges. Threatlocker is a philosophy your techs need to adopt and this can be a struggle to overcome.

Ringfencing is the best portion knowing bad software cannot talk to other software.

ThreatLocker does what it promises. It catalogs and manages your known software while blocking unknown software from running. It also assists with elevation and network ringfencing. Together, these provide a great level of protection for the environment in case you do get breached.

Inconvénients

It is not a set and forget, it takes active management. The time taken is reasonable, it just needs to be factored in. I probably spend 2 hours/week on managing ThreatLocker across nearly 400 endpoints.
