More than just employee time tracking

We started using Homebase for employee time tracking, but there are several features we have started to rely on and are really useful. Mainly posting new jobs on multiple job boards and tracking applicants. Also, this has become our tool for employee communications. I have talked to companies like Paychex that have similar product offerings, but they are much more expensive.

Avantages

The core feature we needed was employee time tracking, but we have started using this for team communication and posting new jobs and tracking applicants.

Inconvénients

I wish I could easier audit when the manager edits clock ins and clock outs.

Homebase equals Homerun

Overall, this is a excellent program for the money spent.

Avantages

The implementation to the staff was extremely easy as well as making sure everyone was signed up. The ease of use is also very nice.

Inconvénients

The mobile version does not have the same fluid nature of the web based version. Which can be extremely frustrating.

Homebase review

My experience has been absolutely amazing and I have nothing bad to say.

Avantages

Easy to use and easy communication with my team. Great scheduling software. Time clock is also amazing with location tracking.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it crashes and has minor hiccups but otherwise has worked very well for my team. The support team helped me through some of the hiccups.

Easy to manage staff

instead of emailing we started using this app to manage schedules (which were done on paper before!) and to send messages to staff, like hey team i'm going to be late this morning, or on Friday we can wear jeans to work! It has made our team much more cohesive and together. now we all know what is going on!

Avantages

Most of our staff is young and are on their phones all the time anyways. This app made scheduling a breeze with requests to switch shifts and time off easy to fill and move around hours. Plus there was no more second guessing what time you were scheduled for or who is off. Also you have the ability to message staff through the app which has made interoffice communication much better!

Inconvénients

The free version only allows 1 manager- I recommend upgrading and letting a manager from every department be able to manage their employees coverage. otherwise it gets a bit overwhelming for 1 manager. Occasionally the app will not let me in asking me to enter a verification code, that is a bit annoying.

Easy to roll out and feature rich for non-HR people

My overall experience with Homebase has been very positive. It's saved me countless hours by automating and organizing a task that we used to do by hand in spreadsheets. It has also helped employees become more accountable and allows me to have a better idea of their performance.

Avantages

The short learning curve and ease of implementation for a first time timeclock user were most appreciated. The phone app was very well received by my employees. The clean design of the user interface is very well done.

Inconvénients

Setting up a repeating template is still clunky and more hands-on than I would like, although they've made some incremental improvements to it. It would be nice if when I approve time off for an employee, it would automatically remove the time they're scheduled for instead of me having to track down the conflict and adjust the schedule by hand. Finally, I've noticed a bug in the browser when viewing timesheets- the new date selector often times simply does not update the timesheets shown when I select a specific pay period, and I have to select the date range by hand.

Been using homebase for years

Yes I recommend but would like to see a few changes

Avantages

It is very easy to use and to train staff to use. I appreciate the multiple features.

Inconvénients

The message feature leaves a lot to be desired. While the feature is essential to our team and used almost daily, it is cumbersome. For example, I message one team member. After time passes I would like to delete the message- for good. Instead after I delete that message the next time I message that one team member the old message thread reappears (from archive) and if I have deleted every comment in the former thread- it shows those bubbles saying deleted comment by me. YUCK- i do not like.
The new pop up while in the scheduling portion. Anytime I change the schedule it asks if I want to repeat even if changing only one day. Then it takes another click to say no to the box asking that is a quarter size of the page. Please add a do not ask again check box to this.

Homebase review

Ease of tracking employee times and creating reports, timesheet printouts

Avantages

Ease of use and great for companies that have field personnel or work from home. Can easily correct times when an employee has trouble clocking in when in the field, has a section an employee can put notes to send message for corrections

Inconvénients

Nothing except don't like that feature of limiting employees clocking in within a certain radius keeps coming up and I literally have to back out of software to prevent it because we don't want it.

Helpful and Easy Communication

We switched from Slack because homebase puts scheduling/time-off requests/shift trades all in one place and allows employees to do some of that work on their own. Hooray!

Avantages

I love the ease of communication Homebase allows with employees. No need to exchange personal numbers and all of the communication is one place. Also allows employees to clock in and out from their devices which is awesome when your the point of sale is also the clock and out spot. This way, we don't have to interupt the workflow to clock in and out. Also really like how Homebase shows your earnings per shift. No guess work at what your hourly paycheck will be!

Inconvénients

My biggest complaint is just that there seems be a lag between the time you check a notification and the time it takes to refresh. So the app will show that I have a new notification when it's actually something I have already checked on. Not a huge deal, but makes me feel like I'm missing something when I'm really not. I could also live without a notification asking if I have clocked out of my shift any time I work past by specified hours. For Example, shift ends at 11:30 but I don't clock out until 11:45 - I get at least one if not 2 text asking if I forgot to clock out.

Homebase needs one more thing!

Avantages

Easy to use. Some great features. Only used customer service once so far but they were very helpful that time.

Inconvénients

We started this program at a restaurant, we then added a theater, then another restaurant (different one) and finally we have added a hotel. It works great for all of the above. We changed the POS system we use for the buffet and the sit-down restaurant and Homebase is not compatible with that program (R-Power). It would be so much more helpful if it worked with that program so that we could track our staffing costs along with revenue. It would make the system perfect for us if they added this feature. We could change to a different program that works with R-Power, but we were already familiar with this program and we wanted to use the same program across all of our properties. We are a family owned business and simplicity and cost effectiveness are very important to us.

Homebase is exactly what we needed for our small business

Perfect!!

Avantages

I love how easy it is for my employees to use and how easy it is to run reports for payroll. My favorite feature is that it takes a photo when employees clock in and out. This ensures that no employee can clock in for another employee. Also, for our small business needs it is free for us to use! You can't get any better than that!

Inconvénients

So far we have not found anything about this software that we do not like. It's been exactly what we needed!

They keep updatubg the software to force you to pay to make it usable. Timeseets is no longer...

Avantages

The group chats and clock-in feature works.

Everything use to work until they "upgraded" their software.

Inconvénients

We are integrated with Paychex, but after the update, the new timesheets will not export to Paychex. Making timesheet useless and we now have to manually inter the timesheets. They did this because they wanted us to switch from Paychex to their very own and useless payroll.

They do not print checks. They do not provide quarterly W3, etc etc. Basic payroll and premium prices.

Good

Easy to use. A bit slow when loading some pages, such as the applications page. Some parts don’t work as well as they should.

Avantages

I like that I can easily see and adjust people’s schedules. I like that they get notifications that their shift is coming up. The push to my calendar is also a plus. Onboarding is simple. It’s well thought out.

Inconvénients

I’d like to be able to write mock schedules. I know Homebase integrates with some POS, but it doesn’t with mine. It would also be great if there was discount for multiple stores under the same account. Adding photos to a message sometimes does not work. Could we get the ability to have a separate message stream even if it’s to the same group of people?

Good Time Tracking

Generally pleasant after I figured out I needed to account for timezone differences.

Avantages

The UX is straightforward. It's easy as a contractor to easily track whatever hours I work, along with breaks, from both the mobile and web apps.

Inconvénients

The time clock is based on the admin's timezone, so for someone who works remotely in a different timezone like me, the times it gives me for when I clock in or when my break ends are incorrect.

Homebase makes scheduling more productive and simpler

definitely like the ease of it, it's simple and makes our scheduling productive and its done with a quick copy and paste and a few minor changes. Saves me so much time, and time is valuable in my shoes.

Avantages

How easy it is to use and how user friendly it is. It really allows my team to be able to see their schedule on their own time, so simple for them to message me or other teammates. It's so easy for them to request time off, or update their hours. Really helped me out with these tasks that used to be a pain.

Inconvénients

I wish there were ways to set up reminder. Like birthdays, anniversaries, etc for the admin or manager. It would be nice if we could upload documents and employee file notes on this system to make management life easier.

Affordable scheduling software

I use the scheduling portion the most. Once a time-off request is approved, it will remind you when you go to schedule some to work on their scheduled time off. This eliminates scheduling errors. I can also look at each location quickly if I need to shift employees around if I am shorthanded.

Avantages

I like that I am able to link all of my locations within one application. I can easily schedule someone for multiple sites and assign specific duties, send messages, approve or decline time-off, etc.

Inconvénients

I do not like that I can't edit someone's information when they take ownership of their account. I have some that forget passwords and not update their personal information like phone numbers and email addresses.

Great for my small business

Avantages

My coffee shops use Homebase for all our scheduling. It is the perfect software! It is cost effective- the free version has all the necessary features. We also use it for own employees to clock in/clock out. You can send messages to your team and see who has read them. I highly recommend you check out Homebase if you are in any sort of business.

Inconvénients

Every once in a while the time clock will be glitchy. The manager can correct these discrepancies from with in the app, you just have to keep an eye out.

Good value for high volume independent contractor payrolls, but missing some features

Homebase has saved us a lot of time and heartache with scheduling part time seasonal staff. I haven't found a better solution for my business yet that is even in the same ballpark for price.

Avantages

Homebase has a good timeclock function, and it allows for nice, intuitive departmental divisions that allow multiple managers to schedule and process timesheets independently.

It's very affordable for managing teams of hundreds of part-time, casual, seasonal contract employees.

Staff seem to be able to navigate the mobile app and shift-claiming process with relative ease.

Inconvénients

Because I'm scheduling for an event-based business, I wish I could assign a Customer/Job to a shift and export the data accordingly.

This would make my cost allocations easier for accounting purposes.

I don't think there's a way for my team to see the breakdown of their tips and wages from the app, so I get alot of questions about that breakdown.

Homebase Review

Extremely poor due to the fact that it doesn't do even the bare minimum, we wanted a scheduling app that has all our employees and lets us talk to them. It lets us talk to them just fine but its always about how they were scheduled wrong and have to constantly fix problems.

Avantages

Allows employees switch shifts with ease and keep in pretty constant communications with them as well. Keeps all employee info in on place for ease of access.

Inconvénients

The whole point of this software is scheduling and it is absolutely terrible at it! It puts employees who aren't trained for the positions into those spots constantly. Every time we go to change what each person can work the system randomly changes people around making it a constant job to make sure people aren't put into the wrong spot. Also it puts people who are unavailable into shifts they can't work or it wont schedule people who can work. This problem has persisted since we started using it and tech support keeps pushing us to the next person and giving us the most ridiculous reason as to why they won't just help us while saying they are trying to help us by saying they are looking into it. Mind you we have called multiple times over many months and nothing has been solved, not one thing!

Overall great team communication software

We have been using it for over 2 years and we have explored other options but always come back to basecamp because it is easy to use, cost-effective, and reliable.

keyword search options, project creation for teams, to-do lists, individual communications with team members, the fee includes unlimited team members (a big selling point for an agency on a budget),

Inconvénients

The only flaw I can think of is I wish that customer service had live chat.

Amazing Ease of Use, Great Value & Feature Rich for Small Businesses

The overall experience has been extremely positive and we have dramatically reduced entering time, processing payroll effort & errors in processing timesheets / payroll for all our employees.

Avantages

Home has extremely no fuss Time Tracking software that can be deployed on phones, tablets etc. The overall interface is very modern and provides seamless HR workflow from posting hiring advertisements, hiring employees, time tracking and payroll.

There's great integration across all their HR functions and lots of pre-built integrations with other payroll services to seamlessly transfer timesheet data across vendors.

In addition to ease of use, their support is phenomenal and they respond quick and to the point.

Inconvénients

No real issues, but they recently launched their Payroll service and as expected for a new service, they are still building out workers compensation integration.

Definitely worth it

Overall this product and customer support have been great!

Avantages

The reason that I started using g homebase was because it is linked to Square. However, even if I stopped using square I would still use homebase!

Inconvénients

Some of the reports are difficult to configure and very time consuming to drill down to the data we need

Great for the service industry, not for manufacturing

I enjoy using homebase for the ease of use of my employees and the app, but as amanger it is quite a cumbersome process to fix issues and a time waste of my day almost everyday. I can see the benefit and the future capabilities of this paltform and am sticking with it because i beleive this product will advance and become much better over time.

The ease of use for my employees to clock in and out. Geofencing

Inconvénients

Three are arbitrary rules in place such as:
1)I cannot select a timeframe longer than 30 days to run payroll for a 31 day month.
2)I cannot clock an employee in earlier than 8 hours a scheduled shift. I have to alter their initial shift to allow for the time slack
3)I cannot have a salaried employee on the schedule without dealing with many issues about them missing their shifts or the annoying other messages after I resolved that issue (I keep them on the schedule so I know when they are supposed to be in as well as an accurate accounting of cash burn)
4)The programming on the front-end seems to be hastily made with many lags and timeouts when updating time cards or trying to perform functions that require the javascript (i think, I haven't opened the developer console on it yet) to perform quickly. basically the server or some other reason keeps it running slow and my function is logged but times out quickly.

A great employee management tool for small business

We like Homebase because it's a good value and lets us keep track of our employees better than having written time cards, which can be a liability. The features in Homebase allow management to set geofencing and times to avoid mis-reported hours and overtime. Our team also likes that Homebase offers a free recruiting too, which is an excellent bonus. We've used it several times and it's great not having to pay a lot for Zip Recruiter or Indeed.

Avantages

Homebase is easy to use as a "clock-in, clock-out" option for employees with non traditional hours and who work remotely. I personally like the geo-fencing options as well as the option that doesn't let employees clock-in early.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it's confusing setting up schedules. We have regular employees who are in the office as well as non-traditional employees, so a system that is easy to use is important. I think it just takes more getting used to.

We use homebase at work daily!

I have has a very good experience so far.

Avantages

I love Homebase because it shows my shifts very clearly and makes it easy to check who is working with me. I also love how I can see who gave up their shifts in case I am looking for more hours. There is a chat function where you can set up group chats with coworkers which makes it easier than messages. I also love the time clock function. There is a wide variety of ways to use Homebase.

Inconvénients

Sometimes the app will glitch and log me out but it does not last long.

Live Changing!

Using Homebase has been Life Changing for our company. We are able to communicate with our young work force in a way that is simple and easy for them to use. We keep our employee records synced and love the safety questions and department features.

Avantages

Homebase helps us get organized, communicate with our team and simply and easily manage schedules. Love that the pricing is flat rated per service rather than per employee--- so much more economical than other options.

Inconvénients

the notifications can be a bit overwhelming sometimes.

Avantages

I really like the geo clock and functioning with employees using their mobile phones instead of store equipment

Geofenced Mobile Timeclock

Overall I can say that the customer service has been great and they have worked to get us through all the bugs and issues and onboarding.

Avantages

We needed a way to allow staff to clock in for shifts without having to have separate equipment or even a computer. The fact that you can set up a geofence to ensure employees can only clock in while at the location was why we selected this software. Employees being able to clock in and out of shifts via their cell phones has been a game-changer for accuracy in actual time worked and holding them accountable for their time instead of logging it on a piece of paper.

Inconvénients

It's not the most intuitive. There is an app, but we ran into some issue with bugs on the app that made scheduling a bit difficult. I definitely prefer using it online over scheduling in the app.

Easy to use, affordable and convinient

Avantages

I love how Home base is very easy to navigate. There are lots of features that help manage employees and keep up with reports. For house keeping industry I find it makes my life a lot easier.

Inconvénients

No cons about Home base but if they would allow for more employee details in Team set up that would be awesome and beneficial.

Homebase, good for small business

Homebase is great overall. Helps me with payroll budgeting and keeping costs in line.

Avantages

Cost is great! All my employees can use it and I can have real time looks at the days costs. I enjoy the reports available.

Inconvénients

I almost feel like there are too many features. I don’t feel like I have time to learn it all and think maybe a streamlined product would be better.

Homebase scheduling

My overall experience has been great, the system is effective and efficient and I save time and money by utilizing Homebase.

Avantages

I have been using Homebase Scheduling for over two years and I will not use anything else, this system makes my life so easy with putting together my weekly schedule - the most important part of the process, I don't have to be in the office to do my work - I can access the system anytime and anywhere, all I need is internet access. I will not use any other system, even if it was free.

Inconvénients

Cons; I hope that more training would be offer when it comes to operating and finding out some of the functionality of the system.

Homebase has helped our team so much

Homebase has been a huge help and time-saver for us. It cut our time for making a weekly schedule by at least half. It has streamlined managing timesheets and offers a great deal of flexibility in reports.

Avantages

Homebase is very user-friendly. It's easy to add new team members, communicate with the whole staff or individuals, create and adjust schedules, etc. It's great that, being a cloud based service, I can access it from anywhere and make adjustments.

Inconvénients

The only downside we've found is that notifications don't always work perfectly. Even with notifications turned on and the person's phone settings being updated, there have been a few issues with people not getting updates. Luckily, the in-app chat feature allows us to communicate quickly and easily about those issues.

Great service, really enjoy many of the features

It's been a great experience, and the support team has been very responsive. I've got nothing but praise for the app and I've been trying to get our company to buy in to using it more and with more advanced features.

Avantages

The ability to communicate with our team without sharing everyone's phone numbers has been very helpful and has been the best way to get in touch with our team (even better than email). Plus because we are nonprofit, being able to schedule everyone's time has been great for our accounting process.

Inconvénients

There are some pretty useful features locked into a higher tier pay wall, but really nothing we can do about that unless we want to increase our tier level. Other than that, the features we have access to have been great. A few people had issues with face/finger id on iPhone app, but it seems to have been resolved now.

Great Scheduler and Time tracker

Avantages

I use the free version and the functions and customer support are excellent. I have called them several times and they always answer and always solve the problem. For free you cannot get much better.

Inconvénients

The free version lacks a few features I would like to use, such as time card saving and managing how far before the shift an employee can log in. The problem I have is the paid plans are too expensive. The pricing goes from zero to expensive to very expensive. There is no mid tier pricing for someone like me that wants a few extra features.

The Features I Need for Free

Avantages

I get to schedule employees and they get to see it on their phones, check schedules, ask for time off, trade shifts, and get reminded to come to work an hour before their shift starts! I can change timecards on the back end if I need to, see how many hours I have scheduled, and estimate what payroll will be. It's easy to clock in and out in the app and Homebase keeps up with the times for pertinent questions to ask when they clock in.

Inconvénients

Trying to shedule a shift from the app will make the schedule go off. You put in one time and then it changes it 2 hours for some reason, not a big deal, it usually schedule from my laptop anyway.

HONEST, HELPFUL, TIME MANAGEMENT SCHEDULING SOFTWARE

VERY HELPFUL. USE IT TO TRACK HOURS AND DEVELOP REPORT THAT I USE TO INPUT INTO PAYROLL SOFTWARE THAT HOMEBASE DOES NOT SUPPORT.

WAS SIMPLE TO USE AND EASY OF DESIGN OR LEARNING.
EASY TO TRAIN OTHERS TO USE.
CAN BE USED IN OFFICE, AT HOME & ON THE ROAD WHEN NECESSARY
LIKE THE ABILITY TO USE COLOR TO EXPRESS DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BUSINESS TEAM.
REASON WE WENT WITH HOMEBASE WAS BECAUSE OF THE BUILT IN EMAIL TO STAFF FEATURE. WE HAD THIS IN OUR OLD SYSTEM AND WOULD NOT SWITCH UNTIL WE COULD FIND THIS EMAIL TO STAFF FEATURE.

Inconvénients

SOME DAYS IT SEEMS WHEN THE INTERNET GETS OVERWHELMED WITH FOLKS LOGGING IN THAT MY PREFERENCE OF PHONE#/LOGIN PATH CAN GET LATE IN SENDING OUT THE TEXT MESSAGE # NEEDED TO PROGRESS. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS QUICK, THEN OTHER TIME IS SEEMS TO GET LOST (TAKES OVER 5 SECONDS VS. INSTANT).

Easy to use and communicate with team

Avantages

Homebase app and push notifications help me keep the team informed of scheduling, changes to schedule and communicating daily needs through messages. It's very easy to use.

Inconvénients

When I leave a note on someone's shift, it's not so obvious for that staff member to see when I do that. I would like a push notification sent to them when a shift has notes on it.

My overall experience with Homebase has been amazing. I have been with them for many years, and to just watch and see how they have evolved and improved, has been amazing.

I love how easy it is to get around the platform, use its videos and tools to get your own answers.

Inconvénients

If you are looking for 24 hr. or prompt customer support, this is not the platform for you.

I love it!

Avantages

I love how easy it is for departments to manage their employee schedules and messaging. Different departments all feed into this one tool.

Inconvénients

I wish there was a way to issolate schedule templates so that department heads could load their own schedule without affecting others.

Finally, scheduling and time tracking that is actually paperless!!!

Last year, I was given the task to find out how to go paperless. This would be a much easier task if people could really learn to let go of all of that paper that they think they need. Homebase has saved me time and money and even space! I no longer have to keep all of that paper in my office. If I ever need it, it can be retrieved and printed out.

Avantages

The best part of this software is that I finally have something that needs absolutely no paper, whatsoever. It's user-friendly, easy to learn and use and really saves me a lot of time.

Inconvénients

There's really nothing negative to say here. The only issue I have right now is that there are actually some people that cannot let go of their use of paper. They can have it, as long as it never comes anywhere near my office again!

Poor accounting integration options

Avantages

Ability to have staff request time off and build schedule accordingly

Inconvénients

Garbage accounting option integrations, only integrates with Quickbooks Online and have no plans to expand to other accounting platforms. This is a big mistake.

We LOVE Homebase!

Homebase is the best scheduling platform I’ve used since I’ve been in the business nearly 20 years.

Avantages

Homebase has all of the features that our small business needs from scheduling, to forecasting, employee messaging, business development tools, and it is all incredibly intuitive and easy to use! I’ve used several scheduling platforms over the years and we’ll stick with Homebase from here on out!

Inconvénients

There’s nothing to not like about this product. The customer service is top notch so if you ever have an issue, it will be resolved to your satisfaction and they’re always inquiring about potential features we may be interested in.

Easy App That Allows Loan Access

Great app for free!

I am satisfied, it does work for me. I can easily track employee hours and schedules.

Avantages

That it's free but I can pay to use more features which is great! I love that my employees can use their phones to clock in and I would know where they clocked in.

Inconvénients

Sometimes my employees have a problems logging in. It may be weak internet signal, or just older aged employees not knowing how to use their phones. Some times employees have to download the app again to fix problems. I myself never had that problem but I get complaints from some of my employees.

Many useful features for employees and business owners alike

Homebase has allowed scheduling, all group messaging and clocking in and out. Could use some help with the "availability" section to make it more user-friendly to hourly workers.

Avantages

I really love how you can see the schedule of everyone on your work team on this software. I can see all the days I am working and also see all the days my co-workers and working, which is helpful for planning purposes if anyone needs to trade shifts or cover each other. Also really like how it shows your "estimated earnings" based on how many hours you are scheduled for, so you can see how much you will make on your next paycheck. We also clock in and out on this app and it is easy to use.

Inconvénients

The "availability" section in this app is so counter-intuitive. It is set on a week-by-week basis, so you have to "update" it for each new week that your availability to work becomes different. This is quite odd for an app that is designed for hourly workers, who usually have odd and ever-changing schedules. They need to change this to a monthly schedule so you can fill out your availability for each day of the month.

Don't bother wasting your time

Horrible customer service

Avantages

After finding out Homebase caters to US labor laws and charges the rest of the world more money to customize the software for them to able to use it properly....nothing was good

Inconvénients

Overtime settings are locked unless you upgrade to $40/month plan. Which is fine if you live in the US but Homebase clearly doesn't care about the rest of the world. Hardly fair to force customers to pay extra in order to change the OT settings for the timesheet tracking. It's not up to business to decided the labor laws. Homebase should let customers set this for free considering it's out of our control...Don't waste you time getting set up and used to using Homebase like I did, you'll end up looking for another time tracking company like I am....
