Avantages

1) The data modeling as-code is great. It saves a lot of time and it helped us migrate from one data warehouse to another. Modifying SQL syntax is easy and it helped save a lot of time.
2) Business users can easily explore from existing dashboards to answer their own questions. This solved our data exploration limitation faced with Data Studio.
3) Overall cadence of feature releases is impressive as well as customer support and reliability of the product.

Inconvénients

The only thing we are missing is the management of dashboards as code as it would help speed up the development and lower the maintenance time needed for that part of Holistics (I understand this feature is about to be released in Beta soon).

We are a startup with a limited budget and, after a review of our options, Holistics became an excellent choice to get us going in BI without the typical huge annual expense. The team at Holistics immediately responded to one of my requests for an enhancement to the tool before we had signed our first contract. Incredible! I have not ever had that kind of customer service. It is a powerful tool for a reasonable price from a great company.

Inconvénients

We need the ability to build an interface with guardrails for our less tech-savvy users and there is no way to build a custom landing page as of yet. We would also like the ability to copy a report between data sources. Export and import of the metadata would suffice.

Avantages

As an analytics engineer, I was looking for a tool that allowed me a lot of data modeling flexibility and reusability. With AML, Holistics does a good job of being able to define data models and relationships using code.As a user and data consumer, I liked how intuitive it was to set up good looking dashboards with interactive features and simple row-level security policies.

Inconvénients

Holistics doesn't feel "fully baked" yet and has some rough edges. I'm really looking forward to some of the more advanced parameterization and modeling features that are expected to be released with AMQL later this year. I'd also like to see some more visualization options.

Creating filters and the cross-filter options Holistics provides is a MASSIVE WIN! Removes the headache of building filters that work across an entire dashboard.

Design options are very minimal, you do not have any control really over the design. Some reports provide different color options, but generally the ability to brand your reports is very limited.

Tableau has been a horrible experience. - The reporting setup is not user friendly, and editing SQL is still required in many cases. This is impossible to maintain as you would need to manage every single join view anytime the DB schema changes and remember which reports have direct SQL adjustments... the data model in Holistics centralizes this and makes it easy to manage - The customization in Tableau is limitless, while this is great if you want full control, it actually creates a TON more work for the end users. Just getting a page to look and act the way you want it to requires a ton of time and experience in using the tool NOT USER FRIENDLY - Support tickets were not resolved.... cases drag 5-10+ weeks, these timelines are not sustainable for a business

I wanted to rebuild a dashboard I made in Tableau, and did this in a few different tools. Holistics was the most user-friendly, they support technical pass throughs for SQL, we achieved the desired result in a fraction of the time it took in Tableau. Embed options with Holistics are perfect and the support team has been awesome!

Data modeling - Holistics gives you the power of other, more expensive SQL-based modeling tools at a budget-friendly price that scales as your needs grow. In addition, it provides persistence mechanisms to a variety of destinations and integrations with other common data tools such as spreadsheet software. While some of the functionality is a bit limited, it's a great way to start analyzing data across a variety of different sources!

Self-service reporting - once you've built out your analysis-friendly data models, building a variety of reports and dashboard is simple, and with just a bit of training even our non-analyst users are building their own reports in minutes.

Inconvénients

Organization - there's quite a few quirks when it comes to organizing your data models and reports. A couple examples include the inability to rename data models once they've been created and the fact that all reports *must* be associated with a dashboard and can't be shared on multiple dashboards.

Data visualization options aren't the most visually appealing and offer limited ability to customize.

We identified Holistics to replace Chartio as our data analysis and visualization platform after Chartio was discontinued as a result of acquisition. We have been using Holistics for about 3 months, and our experience is largely positive. It was easy to connect with the data sources, and there is a lot of flexibility how the analysts can configure the data via the data modeling layer as we need. When we have questions, whether it is more general about the product or a more specific feature, we have been able to get assistance from the Support team in a timely manner, which is really good for migrating to a new product.

Inconvénients

In general we would like to see more ability to customize the reports on the visualization side. There are also some issues when loading the reports and refreshing the page often helps.

Holistics had a generous and easy trial process, standard 14-day trial but can be extended, when we could try and explore pretty much everything in the platform. We also had a much easier time connecting our data source with Holistics.

Holistics is easy to adopt and use as it is web-based. No client installation, user licenses management, additional dedicated infrastructure requirements or other clutter like that.Data sources are easy to connect, and once connection is set you are ready to create data models and visualization on top of them.Data models are built using SQL which is great for us, as it is commonly used by our development team.Holistics rolls out updates regularly and their support team is responsive and quick.

Inconvénients

Variety of supported visualization options is not super extensive (Holistics plans to add custom built visualization functionality, which should solve this though)

We tried the free trial and we were thoroughly impressed with their support. They went above and beyond to understand our use case and help build our first few reports and dashboards

Holistics allowed us to connect our ERP database directly to get near-realtime vision on the most important business KPIs to see how we can keep growing our company.

We've tried almost 6 online B.I solutions and Holistics was the one that allowed our startup to have a cost-effective dashboard with fully feature graphs and tools that even if we had more money to spend, we would still keep using Holistics as it has everything we need.

Another specific feature that we liked is that we are able to make a share-able URL to our dashboard so we can show to our shareholders how things are going quite easily.

While configuring the first dashboard months ago we noted some visual glitches at a feature. We sent an e-mail reporting the situation and they solved it pretty fast, so the support is pretty nice as well.

Inconvénients

As we are not going to see the dashboards every day, it's important for us to keep track of each day indicators. We found interesting to use the scheduled email export feature which send us a report of the dashboard every day.

The e-mail shows the indicators clearly and also attaches some spreadsheets from the reports. We think it could get even better if we could also get attached a PDF version of the dashboard with the same layout as the one we configured at Holistics site.

Avantages

Holistics aim to make it easy for semi-tech users to be able to make an analysis on their own without the need for technical assistance. It's really easy to set up and you can get running within minutes after connecting your databases.

Inconvénients

As your databases get more complex and you require some processing before merging the relationships, Holistics might not be the best software. That said, they are probably not designed for this function.

As we use it as a Self Service platform, so the main users are non-technical we needed a tool very easy to use as Holistics is.
Many types of visualizations with powerful features, and in addition very professional looking.
Very good customer support to ask questions when needed. They show you workarounds if needed. They are great.
They are continuously improving the platform and releasing new features, so we know that what we don't have right now will be at some point :)
So, in summary we are super happy to be working with Holistics.

Inconvénients

Low capability of customization. What it has is OK, but It would be perfect to have more freedom.
I also would like to have drill-down feature in charts

For us, it was very convenient that business users where able to create their own dashboards using Holistics web app, instead of having to use a desktop software and then viewing them in the cloud. From the data engineering team we would prepare the data models (a la DBT, using SQL, very useful!) and datasets and business users would use them.

Inconvénients

In the beginning the SQL queries used to create de data models could not be hosted outside Holistics (Githug, for example), that meant that code versioning and history were not really available. I know that this is changing in the new versions of Holistics-as-code (haven't been able to try them yet!)

The products is easy to use. Basically it has a standard query builder, and from the result we can build the visualizatio as we like. And the interesting part, we can build one query and reuse based on filter templates

I can say the access time, sometimes its depend on the internet access but also when all user access dashboard at the same time we need to wait a bit longer to show the report

The software simply works as advertised. The price to value ratio for us is also quite high. The speed at which they're able to resolve bugs for us has also been quite impressive.

We use Bigquery and found that there are some Bigquery specific features which would help us quite a bit which they don't support (Like the preview feature or the query validator)

Avantages

It's really easy to setup and within minutes you have reports and dashboards that you can easily distribute. The support from the Holistics team is great, if you have questions or feature requests they respond quickly.

Inconvénients

It is not as extensive as some other products but for most users this wont be an issue. What you do have to keep in mind is that the queries are ran on your server so it can give some pressure on your DB.

It has an embedded dashboards feature which is saving technical team from hundreds of hours of development effort to visualize data. The maximum return time I experienced from the support team is around 2 hours. And the documentation is really detailed.

It is great but can have a little bit more options for data caching policies in general. It is currently only limited to individual reports.

I love the product. Reports are simple to create. The Metrics over time are a great feature and reduces need for complex date joins. I use scheduled report emails for alerting. Slack integration.

The support is phenomenal-- one of the best support teams I have encountered in dealing with countless software platforms.

Potentially could get pricey for large orgs who might require over 6000 reports?

3. Able to schedule emails to be sent automatically however many we want. There are platforms out there that has this feature but they only allow to send 1 email or push per day to reduce congestion

1. Visualization can be improved. A lot of times they charts are congested and could be more responsive. Eg. Toggles that can adjust the charts instead of reloading the whole report again to get a subset of the data.
2. Creating reports with that tiny frame is a little tough at times when you want to view more of the codes in one screen. Ended up have to scroll a lot
3. Low user customizing-ability. Admin have to create reports and maintain the reports very thoroughly. If users can drag and drop to adjust things themselves, then admin can concentrate more on bringing better value rather than maintaining the reports according to every different users' demand.
4. Report format is quite unreadable in email

Ease of use, has been instrumental in my understanding of our business (worked less than 5 months in it). Without this easy to use tool that is very user friendly i would still be grasping at straws.

One of the major pros of Holistics is the features/functionality that some of the other companies do not support or they just have it implemented entirely different (in ways that just don't make as much sense). Also, their new data modeling functionality seems far better than the overly complicated data modeling layer at Looker (another company we considered).

Highly useful tool when we need to transform, import, prepare, or load data from our database because it helped us save a lot of time and resources when we no longer needed to code to do this. Setting up automation can be done with great ease, and the user interface is user-friendly with very dynamic features.
Their customer support team is very responsive to all questions and requests, and are highly engaging and professional.

Inconvénients

Currently doesn’t support Python, only SQL. We hope it will at some point in the future though. It is a very promising solution though.

The web UI. Oh my its one of the least usable UI / Web I have yet encountered. Buttons are unresponsive. Things needed done are nested deep and imagine having to traverse unresponsive elements. Unable to modify report on mobile phone browser. Our tight work schedule requires me to multi-task and sometimes I find myself having to find things out only possible by writing ad-hoc queries. This is currently solved by remotely accessing a colleague's PC to use Holistics.

The product is really easy to use with nice to have features such has automatic email delivery, automated slack schedules of embedded dashboards. Also the customer support is really fast.

Entry and standard plans limits are easily reached and more customization of the graphs would be nice.

The dropdown filter in Holistics. I like how Holistics allows report creator to query the dropdown filter inside each report. With the permission feature inside the dropdown filter, it also allows us to show only certain selection of data to certain group of user in the dropdown list.

So far I have not come across any less favorite feature in this software.
