As a User of Okta, it can be very easy to use, but it's not so easy to understand how it works when you first utilize a tool like this. Having everything all in one place is really simple and easy to use, especially with losing track of passwords. I think from a new employee experience it's great because you will have access to all the right tools you need as soon as you start within a company which makes the onboarding process very smooth.

- forced resetting of the password every 8-ish weeks is super annoying.
- Bit of a delay on the push notifications to authenticate.
- Can be a bit frustrating when you switch devices to reset everything.

It allows a good workflow and effective management that minimizes risks. It is highly scalable and easy to use. The self-service it offers allows end users to request a new access without any complications. It allows you to manage the life cycle of a user and the resources and responsibilities to which they have access.

Although it is an effective and secure platform, its initial installation is very complicated, it presents many configurations.

Supports a ton of stuff out of the box, and even the stuff it doesn't support officially can usually be made to work. For example, we used Azure Application Proxy to enable Okta SSO for an old on-prem application that only officially supports Azure Federated Services. Their customer service was responsive in this endeavour, although see the cons for details. For supported issues, their CS was very good and quick.

Inconvénients

While Okta customer service is responsive, they sort of passed the buck when issues are between Okta and a non-supported application even when the issue is with Okta, not the unsupported thing. That said, there's a ton of community documentation so it's not the end of the world to find these answers on one's own. Even though it was an Okta issue, they deflected by saying the target wasn't a supported piece of software.

Their professional services is NOT CHEAP. Just FYI before you give up on building a solution and thinking about bring them in to finish a job for you

I like that everything is connected to it. There are a lot of different applications that I use for work and OKTA is the way that I sign into all of them. This limits the number of passwords that I have to keep track of even though OKTA does provide a useful password manager functionality as well

Okta makes it very easy to get started with an identity provider. It has comparable or superior features nearly all other identity providers on the market. The ability to create a trial account to quickly test and assess its feature set is also a huge plus.

Okta is great but the feature set and documentation can be overwhelming. For experienced IT folks its fairly straightforward to implement but for new users unfamiliar with identity management, the huge feature set and breadth of documentation can be a bit intimidating.

Because Okta is a well-known, widely used product we can easily integrate it with a lot of different applications.

Some use cases like integrating with Filemaker require extra purchase which is kinda painful. (considering our user base, which is around 40 users daily)
Sometimes we have trouble resetting the passwords because the links don't work.

I love this tool. No longer have to risk giving out passwords to account. I can just give my user access to an OKTA account and then assign them chicklets to access account, software, groups and so forth, without them ever having to know the password to them. It works well and is fairly easy to use and set up users. The AD tie in is nice and helps in making it easier to add users to your account. Put yourself at ease and give OKTA a real look you will not be disappointed.

i would say adding users can seem a bit tricky and odd if you don't do it all the time, it could be a little clearer on adding users into your account. but other than that its pretty solid software

We are company that uses a ton of third party softwares and services, all requiring unique, secure passwords. It would be impossible for me to manage all of these quickly without Okta. I love the general interface and how easy it is to safely log into whatever site I need to.

This is a small UX issue, but when I am logging into okta and I have to go through the SMS authentication, I think it would help make for a better experience (and less confusing) if the "Enter Code" input field and "Send Code" button were reversed in how they are oriented on the page, since the function of Sending the codes ALWAYS precedes the action of inputting the code.

Our users save minutes every single day, no longer repetitively typing and re-typing their directory password. When we have had issues with applications, their support has been extremely responsive. They also take what the community builds as custom applications and will roll those into the app library as they put polish on them and make them ready for prime time.

The only downside to Okta is cost. We know these systems are not cheap and Okta is one of the premium models for sure. We decided that with a system which was so user intensive and users had to touch many times per day for logging into applications, we were not willing to sacrifice usability for what came down to not a lot of money. I will tell you that the list pricing on their website is very negotiable. If you can find some other customers to talk pricing to you you'll know that good deals are there if you work it correctly with your account team and their sales cycle.

It's fairly easy to deploy and integrate an app using Okta. The programme has excellent admin and user friendliness. It is one of the best IAM tools and one of the top SSO solutions because of how simple it is to use and the diversity of capabilities it provides. Most apps and most providers that allow SSO interaction with Okta have very basic and straightforward SSO connectivity. Both the option to create a separate directory and the option to merge with your current directory function pretty nicely. It is a comprehensive product when combined with additional capabilities like threat management, Directory service, and life cycle management. This should be done even if cost is not a concern.

The item takes some underlying setting up the item has many elements that can appear to be exceptionally confounding and the cost goes up with every one of the highlights you want fundamentally for every client

Set up was efficient, can be used to authenticate and manage the passwords of several accounts. Multifactor authentication worked within seconds of attempting to log in.

Okta is intuitive to manage. It packages a lot of components into a single pane of glass (unlike, say, Microsoft's solution which requires a bunch of disparate systems). You get a log of value for your money. The support and development teams are responsive. The support for single sign-on to non-SSO apps with the browser plugin is very helpful. The product looks nice, and is easy for end users to use. The Okta Application Network has far more apps total, with SAML support, and with provisioning support than the competitors.

Inconvénients

Their MDM solution (OMM) is very basic, and slow to develop more features. It would be nice if you could deploy any mobile app you wish, not just the ones associated with catalog apps. OMM should really support enterprise wireless profiles as well. The browser plugin for IE sometimes misbehaves, and upgrading it doesn't always go as smoothly as it should.

The feature that I liked the most is the multi-factor authenticator. There are three factor/ways to authenticate which are SMS, call and through their OKTA mobile App. I also liked that it is very easy to reset the factor for authenticator, password, and unlock account.

There are a number of instances that for the multi-factor authenticator, SMS and call authenticators fail. System generated passwords are very complex and the users who need the password reset can hardly grasp it if provided verbally or through phone.

We have integrated Okta with most of our apps. With MFA enabled you need to download Okta app on your phone and accept the push to login. I have been using this for more than a year and has been working fine so far. Integrations with Okta have been ok was able to read through documentation and proceed with integration. There is single page which shows all the okta enabled apps which is cool too.

Inconvénients

There is some delay in push notifications at times. Also in case you loose your phone then you are caught up since you need phone to login and need to work with helpdesk to get it sorted.

They have absolutely fantastic customer service support. I was so impressed and I can't say anything negative about the fact that they take total responsibility to make sure that if a user is having difficulty using the software they take care of it

Ever since 2016 I've been using Okta as a way to sign in to different apps our company use. And since I only need to remember the password I have for Okta, it makes managing the other apps easier. I don't have to remember the passwords for all of the other apps. I can also ask Okta to generate and store the password for me when I am adding a new tile on the Okta dashboard.

Inconvénients

It can sometimes be confusing if you are using a browser that has the password manager as well. It would probably make sense if the user can be asked which one he would use to manage his password, Okta or the browser's password manager.

I use it to get access to the features my company provides (e.g. time management, internal applications/data, etc.). I find it simple and efficient to get verified when using those resources. And safety is of crucial importance for the entire organization (user-wise and company-wise).

I sometimes hae a feeling that the app is not always operating in the background, and once in a while I have to open it on my mobile phone to confirm that I actually am the person entering the site/portal. But such situations are rare.

Okta has simplified everything for us. The process of setting up applications is pretty straight forward, and the number of applications that are supported is amazing. The adaptive MFA is really neat so we can easily balance security and usability to meet just about everyone's needs. The amount of work we have to do to onboard a new user has been reduced drastically through the support of SCIM and APIs. They continue to innovate and bring out new features that further enhance the usability and security of Okta.

Inconvénients

Only minor issues with Okta, primarily being chose of wording for some of the settings that lead to some confusion on when Okta sessions expire.

I like that it puts all of our apps in one place, for use no matter whether we are at the office, on a laptop, or having to use a public computer or even your phone. You can securely access email, box, our workday (time keeping and pay app), and many other things.

Inconvénients

Sometimes it's difficult to access things if you happen to not have your phone with you. You have to have the second way to log in, and if you don't have your cell phone or an apple watch, you can't confirm your access.

Okta makes it easy to connect to all of my company's resources, especially when I am working remotely. The interface is intuitive and visually appealing. There is a button for each resource on the homepage. You can even personalize your homepage by moving the buttons around so the ones you use most are at the beginning of the list.

Inconvénients

I wish you could create categories or folders and organize all of the resources on the Okta page by these categories or folders. It would help me find the resource I'm looking for even quicker!

I use Okta every day. It's the one place that has all the sites that I used on day to day basis. Single Sign-on saves a lot of time.

This is by far the best new software I've used in the last few years. So many platforms exist that offer the same "innovative efficiency" for employees and employers alike; Okta is the one that really delivers. Long story short (in my experience with it) - it allows you to link all professional accounts (think email, payroll apps, time tracking, any other software you use) into one efficient log-in process, with an extension that allows you to access any of the above at any time, without having to fiddle with passwords, dual authentication, etc. It is a huge time saver for me EVERYDAY, and saves our HR and tech team the headache that comes with having to manually reset passwords or log-in info for employees on a million different platforms.

There was a slight* learning curve
*slight = it took under 15 minutes to fully set up, with some slight hiccups along the way, if you're not super tech-savvy. Luckily, once you're past the initial set-up, there is never an issue again. Everything just works!

Okta's technology helps organize all the logins to apps and web pages that we use frequently, and it also provides us with a panel to put tabs for those apps so we can arrange them in a way that suits us, which I find incredibly easy to access. It's also great that Okta's protection levels are very strong, as it always requires login authentication, protects us from hacking, and automatically sends alerts when any unauthorized login attempt occurs.

Inconvénients

Okta is absolutely flawless, works with all platforms efficiently, doesn't take up much space, doesn't slow down devices, and has a functional and easy-to-use mobile app.

I love how easy this platform is for end users to immediately pick up and use. It is also extremely powerful for IT admins to configure. The Okta Integration Network is a great resource to see if an app / platform is supported. I also LOVE that they offer free training and certifications.

I wish there was more documentation on how to configure applications from the Okta side. Example: I need to pass a parameter from Okta into my LMS, but neither the LMS vendor nor Okta has any docs stating how to do this.

Okta is the software that I didn't know I needed in my life. Remembering a single password and having access to every service I need for my job is amazing. Long gone are the days of opening my computer in the morning at work and spending the next 20 minutes logging in to all of the websites that I was going to be using that day.

Honestly, I don't think there is anything. Maybe the ability to customize the look of the main Okta screen? It may even be possible through the backend but it isn't the prettiest in my eyes.

A true single sign on platform. We are a high volume company with over 1200 employees and utilize multiple cloud-based vendors. Having all of these platforms centralized within Okta is invaluable. I could not imagine my day-to-day without it.

API documentation is extensive and functionality is robust. Okta has become our "Single Source of Truth" for not only connecting vendors, but also our data.

Mobile based app is intuitive and fast for dual-authentication. System is very secure. Hand-offs are seamless.

Dual authentication and tokens can sometime require a dual submission.

Permission grants and overall setup for user-specific platforms may take some time.

I love Octa because it ensures that all of my passwords are linked and saved to my account. It makes signing on simple and quick and reduces the number of passwords I have to memorize. I also feel safe, knowing that my company resets my password for Octa frequently, making my sign-on more secure.

I haven't experienced any issues with Octa, as of yet. It satisfies all of the purposes our company needs it to satisfy.
